Barren Earth

I'm new to this site, but thought I could make an early contribution by suggesting Barren Earth to be added in the Tech/Extreme Prog Metal section of PA.

This Finnish supergroup consisting of members of Kreator, Swallow The Sun, Moonsorrow (and a couple of former Amorphis members) plays a sort of blend of melodic death metal and progressive rock.

I believe that to anyone who listens to their debut album "Curse of the Red River" the influence of both 70s progressive rock acts and contemporary progressive metal acts such as Opeth is very evident, which the band members themselves admit.

I'm not sure if their myspace will give you the best image of their sound as the songs selected seem to be (as usual) the most accessible one's, but check it out and tell me what you think:

And if you want to search for more examples, I suggest the longer songs such as the title track "Curse of the Red River" and "The Ritual of Dawn"
