Would you rather they all spoke in false Italian accents? We don't exactly know what a "Latin" accent is so it made sense for the actors to speak in their native accents and just concentrate on delivering decent performances.

wouldn't Rome have inducted Britons into their ranks?  I always assumed that's largely why English actors can play Romans legitimately

So I've heard. I very much intend to watch it at some point but it is a massive time investment, hence not getting round to it yet.

I'm similarly dismayed at the lack of love for Mad Men round these parts. It's not quite as perfect as many of its fans would claim, but at its best it is miles ahead of the competition.

I don't watch Mad Men for the same reason I don't watch Breaking Bad, I feel like I need a shower afterward

I tend to watch most TV shows on DVD, so I can get through a season in a week if I choose. My top shows would be:

Battlestar Galactica (best series ever made IMO)
Alias (still the best thing JJ Abrams has ever done)
Stargate SG-1 (at least for the first 6/7 seasons)
Rome
Band of Brothers
The Pacific
Top Gear
Prison Break
Dexter

I cant wait for the new HBO series A Game of Thrones to start, I expect it'll join the list.

If it had been American accents it would have been awful. And as it is a British programme partly who else would they pick? Damn us Brits for picking British actors in British shows.

Limmy's Show, one of the best BBC sketch shows in years is back again, and as usual they refuse to transmit it "south of the border" because us poor southern softies surely can't comprehend a man talking with a mild Glaswegian accent! Thankfully, at least we've got iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/yts1t/

My favourite TV serie has to be Red Dwarf. I don't know how well know the serie is elsewhere, but here in Finland no one knows it. I've understood it was pretty popular in UK though. For those who don't know Red Dwarf, it's a scifi comedy serie about a guy who is put into suspended animation on the mining ship Red Dwarf in deep space. The entire other crew is wiped out in an accident. The guy is released stasis some millions. His only companions are the ship's senile computer, a hologram of his dead bunk mate and a lifeform who evolved from the ship's cat. Later they're accompanied by a droid. It sounds completely ridiculous, but the show is filled with great little jokes.

Other favourite of mine is Cold Feet

The "English" spoken during the time of the Roman occupation would hardly be recognizable to the modern ear, so I'm not sure if British actors enhance the authenticity. But I agree that the casting was appropriate. Ever hear of a little affair called I Claudius? You might like it if you like Rome. I count British actors among the world's finest.

Hey a Red Dwarf fan _ I just watched the DVD Back to Earth today and loved it. I missed the laughing with the live audience as it made it less humorous without the spontaneity of the characters reacting to the laughter. Lister was excellent on this and I liked the scene where Kryten walks in with Mexican hat, and of course that Russian hologram. Kochanski was a surprise element and I thought it had a nice twist. Rimmer was very funny as usual. A great series! The Blade Runner homages were wonderful and the effects are way better than the series ever was.
what is your favourite season - 3 or 4 for me
