for some people, being overrated means bands/albums people love but they don't.

that is the ONLY definition of overrated.

I disagree, for example I think Kiss are overrated (they don't deserve all the attention they get), do I like them? Yes, they have a ton of good songs.

you don't get to tell people that they like something more than they should - it's beyond arrogant.
we cant read minds, we cant tell who or if someone is jumping on a bandwagon.  you just have to accept that a lot of people like something more than you do.

I used to feel this way - I thought the Movie Titanic was 'overrated'
Part of my growth was I had to learn to get over myself and accept that people value and rate things according to how they feel and it's ok if they like the things I don't, and don't like the things I do ..
their tastes are appropriate for them .. as mine are for me.  it's really that simple

The terms "overrated/underrated" are all about subjectivity.
It's not about judging someone else's tastes. I never implied that. Like I said, something overrated is when appreciating something reaches exaggeration.
It becomes a hype, talk of the town to the point of annoyance almost.

Titanic is an overrated movie LOL, OMG,  back then it was like , if you hadn't seen it, you lived for nothing. LOL

I think underseen should replace underrated (usually the case of a good film flying under the radar - poor exposure, etc) but even your definition of overrated is so intangible - it's impossible to put your finger on.

lets face it - if something is really good to people - they will talk about it enthusiastically and often.
It doesn't bother me ... I just turn it off and figure that I simply don't align with their tastes.
I pretty much hate all pop music (this bogus RnB stuff) I hate Harlequin Romance Novels, I cant stand anything on TV .. but the people who rave about those things truly do like them despite my feelings ..
It's rated appropriately for them .. I don't understand any of it but I can only say I'm right for me - not them

sort of like how you're thinking about my opinion on this right now :)

I'mnot arguing against what people should do (listen/watch/like/appreciate) but when things get hyped, I have a problem.
I'm gonna make a pol - Supper's Ready against any Genesis song; if Supper's Ready wins, there is a problem
LOL

LOL

I love Genesis as well, but if I were to think of an overrated song amongst progheads, it's this one, so if Supper's Ready does not win that poll, it means then that it's not overrated. LOL

^ "The Battle ..." isn't overrated. I hear a lot of spite for it instead on this forum.

Probably mostly from me LOL

I like nearly all Genesis music , so much beauty and brilliance and then there is this track where they do stupid voices and is 5 times as long as Benny The Bouncer. If only there was something remotely interesting about it.Wink

I like the wordplay, and the general story telling.
From the day I've had this album that track never stood out as unworthy to me and I sing along happily every time it plays

bah..... that kind of talk is overrated.

Too of much good old fashioned common sense can wreck an internet forum and leave us nothing to do but swap spit in the shower and hold hands by the campfire and sing hymms together.

Boring Angry

so yeah.. both of you are overrated. Take that hah. LOL

We need a most overrated forumite thread.  That is what we need.
