I am by no means a fan of the band or their style of music, but changes of heart have been known to happen. They usually end up being for the worse I find, but seeing as how I consider Blink to be the Nadir of music I think the haven't got anywhere to go but up. The track wasn't categorically awful, which isn't something I can say for anything else I've heard by them. If this is more than some passing flirtation, maybe the band themselves will continue to progress and in a few (lots at this rate) albums from now we won't be joking about Blink's answer to Closer to the Edge. Stranger things, rare as they may be, have happened. You just won't catch me holding my breath.

Enough with the mature analysis. Those burns are epic.

That actually sounds good-ish... Reminds me of Amplifier. Is that the best cut from the album?

Oh, Prog world has been disappointed again!

This is as Prog as they got on the new album Approve

The extremely curious can even check the tracklist:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighborhoods_(Blink-182_album)

And gosh, they almost topped US charts LOL

Apparently the absence of a Prog track on the album precluded their rise to n.1 spot... What a pity! Ouch

It's like in CTTE when Squire plays towards the end a modified version of the bassline from the beginning.

Exactly like that.

I'm of the opinion that if a band or artist appreciates prog but doesn't do prog and wants to do a prog album or spice up their music with some prog, more power to them.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Wink
I find this quite interesting. Perhaps they are bored out of their brains with the pop punk formula and want to do things that are more musically challenging and interesting for themselves. How prog it will be, we'll have to wait and find out. Speaking for myself, I hope the results are worth a listen.
Also, they may be trying to distance themselves from the commercial music world.

I'm just going to let this out real quick...

Pop-punk is one of my least favorite genres of all because it takes punk (which I respect as a genre) and commercializes it, thus creating an oxymoron along with some really unoriginal music.

Blink 182's first step toward prog would be to make something that's not 100% commercialized, which I doubt will happen.

But of course the real reason for saying their new album will have some prog is probably just to get people talking about the album.  And I'm sure some people here will listen to it when they otherwise wouldn't have, just because of the band's statement.

Wait: Bink 182 is still up and recording? In 2011? Confused
I can understand that some people still enjoy, let's say, Millencolin or Satanic Surfers - but Blink 182???
