Female fronted metal acts tend to be fairly generally despised in prog circles - even though bands like Nightwish, Epica and After Forever have managed to make it onto here, this style of music isn't widely regarded as being progressive at all. But what if a band like Dream Theater or Symphony X were to sack their lead singer and replace them with a lady of similar vocal style to Simone Simons or Floor Jansen? Well that's pretty much what we have here with Akribi from Sweden.
They are a 6 piece band, who've been aound in their current format since 2008 (though their origins go way back to 2003), but only releasing their debut album "Black Morning Sun" as a digital download frm CDbaby and iTunes at the end of July this year. A physical CD is promised shortly, and the band are already working on a 4-song EP scheduled for release in October. Band members are: Jessica Ĺhman - Vocals, David Lidell - Guitar, André Berntsson - Guitar, Andreas Tiberto - Keyboards, & Alexander Bringsoniou - Bass and Chapman Stick. They don't currently have a permanent drummer - Simon Jakobsson filled the role during the past year or so, but the job is currently vacant. I won't bore you with my views on why I think they ought to be on here - I'll just leave you with a few samples, & hopefully the music will do the talking.... |

I don't think we've had a blond babe yet so that's good enough reason to evaluate them. We'll let you know in a couple of weeks. |

I notice from progfreak that the band have been cleared for addition: http://progfreak.com/Akribi-148976.html?path=pa/recent. Great news! - Everything has now been recorded for the band's second release (EP), & the material was sent off to Brazil at the weekend for mixing. Shouldn't be too long...

^ Great news! - As an update, the band's new 4-track EP is scheduled for digital release on 1st December. They have changed record label for this one, and no decision has yet been made regarding whether or not there will be production of a physical CD version of it. A CD version of "Black Morning Sun" is in hand, and due any moment - unfortunately there have been delays with this that are outside of the band's control.
