Trying to listen to some key metal bands that I never got around to, I was trying to find an Exodus album to pick up and several people told me that the live record Another Lesson In Violence was actually the way to go, featuring as it does almost all of their classic debut Bonded In Blood except recorded much better.
And wow, what a great thrash metal band. OK so the vocalist is a bit crap but you can just tune him out and listen to that band go. If you want drums and guitars turned up to 11, this really does do the trick. They should be better known than they are. |

an early favorite of my youth, used to go see them waaaay back when Kirk Hammett played lead guitar; I'd agree the recording of BbB is unfortunate and the vocalist sux (though he was one of the first growlers)..haven't heard the live so I can't say, but it's definitely worth a try

Judging by the thread's title I thought that maybe you meant this Exodus...

I remember having bought Pleasures of the Flesh (1987) when I was in high school and... being unimpressed and disappointed.
Yet, I guess my disappointement was to due to the fact that I nearly came straight from Iron Maiden or Motorhead to death-metal, skipping 90% of thrash-metal (except for Megadeth and Metallica). But their reformation made me reconsider them... In december, they will tour with Sepultura, Heathen and Death Angel, and I think I will attend the Paris concert. |

Heathen's last album is excellent.
Coming back to the topic, Exodus recorded only ONE good album, their very first, 'bonded by blood'. Their vocalist of that era, Paul Baloff (RIP), sounds at times like James Hetfield.

Bonded was a lot of fun despite horrid vocals and extremely dodgy lyrics (or maybe because of them!). Didn't care for Pleasures - it just kinda lay there and did nothing. But Fabulous Disaster and Impact Is Imminent were great - definite classics of FRASH. Then came Force Of Habit, which was uninspired and uninspiring, and that's where they lost me. Haven't checked out any of the post-reformation stuff.

Their best album is actually probably Tempo Of The Damned. The reason it's ignored in favour of other stuff is simply because it came out post millenium when everyone had stopped listening to them.

I love the vocals, amongst my favourites in thrash metal...so absurdly over the top it's fun. Bonded by blood is definitely one of my thrash favourites and one of the most headbangable albums I have heard.

The vocals are actually one of my favorite parts of early Exodus-finding vocals that extreme in 1982 was practically unheard of.

Honestly, the latest 3 Exodus albums are my favourites.
