Hey Dude,
Please take this post in a general spirit of good will that it was written in.
You left out a very important option, the box for:
There is no bad song and this record is a progressive music masterpiece. So we apologize for smoking crack
with those street hookers in that cheap hotel and thinking there was a bad track on YES - Fragile.
Uhm, kay???
For the masses who voted for Bruford's 5%... That song is vintage Bill Bruford. Lots of syncopated off time stuff with
a little bit of harmony thrown in. Bruford isn't may favorite drummer, but that song does personify what he is about as an artist. As I recall all the solo pieces on Fragile represent each musician pretty darn well.
Geesh. Kids, Damn Kids....
In the Flying Colors thread I was "invited" to go listen to some other music.
Why don't you lot go listen to that new Flying Colors CD or a Pat Benatar CD and get in front of a full length mirror and go play air guitar.
Thank you for your time. |

Heart of the Sunrise was surely original back in the day, but it has not worn well. It/s unfair to put a throwaway like five percent for nothing up against it, either.

Can you expand on why you like 5%? I mean, I can see Bill trying hard on a tiny syncopated pattern. And the track hangs between 'South Side of the Sky' and 'Long Distance Runaround' for the dynamics and mood contrast purposes. But none of those work for me. What's your beef? | I have a taste for bizarre, 'uneven', and disjointed sounding music. I don't know if its in a weird time signature or not, but it certainly sounds like it is. I like the way it might sound like a total mess to some (many on PA, in fact!) and like a coherent piece to others. I guess its my inner MOI and Univers Zero fan! Also, the bass groove rocks on that one. I find it impressive that the band is able to pull off stuff like "South Side of the Sky", such an epic piece, then turn around and hold something weird like 5% together as an ensemble. Its such an amazing feat, in my opinion, and proof of how eclectic they once were. I relistened to "Fragile" last night (I have the MFSL version from a few years back ... what a thing of beauty!) and was a lot more impressed with it than I'd previously been. I know I have some kind of reputation among my friends as NOT being a Yes fan and in particular, a Jon Anderson fan, but something about the album as a whole 'clicked' for me for the first time. Here's what I think: there isn't a weak track on the entire thing! I even enjoyed "Cans and Brahms" and "We Have Heaven". The band had a real 'classical' tinge to their compositions that I hadn't picked up on before and I really enjoyed it. I'll have to start digging out Yes albums again, perhaps now is the right time!

Dumb? |
Looks like we will just have to accept the idea that our arguments will never end and we can't persuade one another.

It's kind of annoying and out of place. |
I remember someone said that before. I perceive it as redundant, too. But let's see what Zombywoof says he likes about it ... if he will.
