Listing A Little Bit. . .
In the new Q special on Prog Rock there’s a list of what their panel of white-coated boffins regard as essential in the world of musical adventures. So how many of these albums do you own?
Less than ten means you're in a relationship and have friends who don't have pizza stains on their beards. In fact none of your friends have beards. You have friends! Well you get the idea.
- Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd
- Foxtrot by Genesis
- Close To The Edge by Yes
- In The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson
- Brain Salad Surgery by ELP
- A Farewell To Kings by Rush
- Aqualung by Jethro Tull
- Space Ritual by Hawkwind
- Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield
- Ok Computer by Radiohead
- Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
- The Yes Album by Yes
- Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
- The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis
- The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other by VdGG
- Octupus by Gentle Giant
- Misplaced Childhood by Marillion
- Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta
- In The Land of Grey And Pink by Caravan
- Third by Soft Machine
- Lateralus by Tool
- Larks’ Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
- Moonmadness by Camel
- Moving Waves by Focus
- A night At The Opera by Queen
- Pampered Menial by Pavlov’s Dog
- Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros
- L by Steve Hillage
- Five Bridges by The Nice
- Music In A Dolls House by Family
- Roxy Music by Roxy Music
- Moontan by Golden Earring
- All Together Now by Argent
- Hatfield And The North by Hatfield And The North
- Flying Teapot by Gong
- Dance of The Lemmings by Amon Duul II
- In Search Of The Lost Chord by The Moody Blues
- Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
- Once Again by Barclay James Harvest
- 666 by Aphrodite’s Child
[End of borrow].
As ever some odd choices bubbled up there from a so-called panel of experts, especially from the final positions some of these obtained in this Q chart.

In Red are the albums I own as a cd (and I had most of those as vinyls) so I confirm that they are good!
In Blue are albums I have heard often (maybe lent to me), or once owned the vinyl or CD but clearly do not belong to a top 40 proglist (or any other top list of any kind)
And the last three I have not yet heard enough to judge decisively, but they are not likely to make it.
Hang on a minute!!!!!
Q ?!?!?!
WTF do they know of prog?
They are the most hateful monthly rag around!!!
Nice seeing Grey and Pink in there though! Could not stop the John Bull spirit UH!!!!!
over 90% of those are British!

Musical hacks down the pub, in their cups thinking about a band wagon to jump upon........... Q has irregularly been the leader of 'lets take the piss out of prog' - and I'll try to dig out their previous top ten of prog to do a comparision.
However, Classic Rock takes a lot of beating for lack of research (e.g. the Jeff Beck Truth article was largely regurgitated from the liner notes of an earlier CD release of the same), historical inaccuracy (e.g. stating Allan Holdsworth was pencilled in to replace Steve Howe in Asia) , reporting rubbish, and crap reviews (they dismissed Savoy Brown's Raw Sienna with a 2* a couple of months ago, saying it didn't compare with Foghat) - a magazine with no taste and can't be trusted.

If you're saying that Tubular Bells doesn't belong in the Top 40 or any top list, then I think you have never been so wrong, and you've been wrong lots!

12 out of 40, that's a meagre 30%?! Albeit where is Mirage by Camel and Remember The Future by Nektar?! They should have done a top 50 eh?
Great special edition though and it has inspired me want to go out and buy a load more vinyl

Hey, don't torture yourself - you've heard of Pavlov's Dog........who on an obscurity rating are about 8/10 - (as reference points: Pink Floyd, Yes , Genesis are 0/10)

Raw Sienna a 2* album?!?!
No wonder I refer to them as Classy Crock!
Best Savoy Brown album and four times better than Foghat will ever do! To compare Raw Sienna to Foghat is mindless and obviously means you are deaf! Even if 3/4 of Foghat played in Savoy Brown!

This coming from the man who has ELP's Love Bitch in his signature!!!!!!!
Not that TB is bad , just terribly over-rated and not Oldfield's best even by a mile. Try Herdgest Rige or Ommadawn. And They don't belong on the top prog 200.
However they do top the Top 50 of over-rated albums!!!!

Mike Oldfield is in no way over-rated.
Actually Tubular Bells, Ommadawn, Crises, Voyager all are masterpieces, although Voyager is more folk music, not prog.

Well, what I have in my sig is irrelevant, I'm not saying Love Bitch is a great album. I have all the ELP albums in my sig!
It may not be his best, but it was his first and is a kind of timeless classic and easily belongs in the top 40!
