As a bassist I'm not so sure who I prefer, perhaps Wetton. As a singer, Geddy Lee easily. Wetton, at least on his King Crimson years, is one of my least favourite singers (though time seems to have treated him well, unlike other singers, and lately I do have enjoyed his singing).

I'm not very impressed with Geddy's work, honestly ... at least on most occasions. John can really make some cool bass grooves when improvising. Answer is: John. Great bassist. He was a great singer, but now Geddy just beats him, I'd say.

Hercules, I just watched that clip, just brilliant playing from Wetton. I think we all froget just how good he is, especially when you listen to his more comercial work of the last few years!!
Of course, that's not the only track where Wetton kicked a$%. Hell, I'd pull anything from KC's SABB as an example.

I thought Lee was a far better bass player than Wetton until I saw this:

Now I can't split them; they're both brilliant bass players and good vocalists.
I've never seen this version before. Why have I not seen it before?

For bass, I am tempted to go with Wetton just for KC because nothing in Rush compares to that phase of KC and what Wetton achieved with them. But as a singer, Geddy's voice has held up better (and nor did I see the fuss about Wetton anyway, even on Red). No vote.

Straight-ahead player? I don't think that gives him any justice whatsoever. He's famous for his brilliant counter playing.
Indeed. The melodies he comes up with often outshine the guitar or vocal lead of the song. I find it impossible to listen to Lifeson's solo in Limelight because I am always fascinated by what Geddy is doing at the same time.
There is a similar case like a previous Bruford/Peart fight: Geddy's bass playing is technically perfect, but somewhat without soul, unlike John. Geddy is too tightly connected with only one band - Rush, while John is much more versatile. Geddy's vocals are rather annoying in heights, John's timbre isn't just clear but still pleasant.
