Topic: Voyage of the Acolyte vs Nursery Cryme Posted: November 07 2012 at 18:16 |
Voyage for me. The only song I really love on Nursery Crime is The Music Box, and well, most of the short songs are nice too. But the other 2 long songs are really annoying. On Voyage, I like Shadow of the Hierophant at least as much as Music Box, plus just about all of the album is very nice listen.

Nursery Cryme by far - a Prog milestone. Voyage bores me half of the time. Sorry. The production gets me.

Nursery Cryme is possibly Genesis best album. In a way it's more consistent than Voyage, but Voyage has other qualities that Cryme doesn't have - they are two different records. Both great and incomparable. No vote.

Nursery Cryme. Never was a big fan of Acolyte. I like Hackett's next two albums more.

Completely agree. Voyage is a very good 4* album but Nursery Cryme is 5* beyond doubt. Spectral Mornings is the only other solo album by a Genesis member to even bear comparison with it.

pretty much agree with everyone else. Unfair to compare Hackett's solo work to a classic Genesis record. But Voyage is still fantastic.

'Voyage' is indeed a good album. But for me 'Nursery' is in a higher league. Let's say for fun that 'Voyage' is a 'Europa Cup' album, and 'Nursery' is 'Champions League' one..

Nursery Cryme: 5 stars
Voyage of the Acolyte: 4.5 stars (probably the best solo effort of a former Genesis member, together with Anthony Phillips' Wise after the Event).

About Nursery Cryme I always thought "The musical box" and "The fountain of Salmacis" are much better than the rest which is.... well...good but not the best prog I've heard. Hackett's debut is a little more consistent but doesn't reach the heights of those two songs. Anyway it's Hackett for me by a tiny bit.

The one with the croquet mallet girl on the cover, but the other one is also excellent.
On a sidenote: yeah, I see the mis-alignment too.

Nursery Cryme is special being my first Prog album ever, but my vote goes to Mr. Hackett....Voyage is otherworldly....
