Piper easily... I never understood the deal with Division Bell except "High Hopes" which is a neat song. Nothing special, but neat. I do think the softporn comment kind of nails it for me though when I think of it.

the start and the end of studio album Floyd

If we talk about the real Prog, discovering, pioneering, then The Piper is undoubtedly better by a wide margin. If we talk about mere pomposity, decline, but on the other side about certain commercial success, then The Bell is just better .
So, guess what I actually prefer.

Piper. One of the foundation stones of progressive rock. Better than TDB, one of the foundation stones of the endless Floyd reissue campaign roundabout.

Pipper? Not just in the title but the poll as well?
Regardless, I'll go with A Pipper the Gates, although I'm not a fan of Pipper the clown, at all. The Division Bell was ok.

A Pipper the Gates of Dawn is such a great album. Right behind A Dark Syd the Moon and Wish You Were Hear. But for psychedelic-era albums I prefer Sgt. Pippers Looney Hearts Club Band.
In all seriousness, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn wins over The Division Bell.

I actually prefer TDB to Animals and The Wall, but TPATGOD is a masterpiece. Because TPATGOD is so good it took me several years to get to appreciate A Saucerful Of Secrets because it has the misfortune of having to follow TPATGOD.

I really don't like the Syd Barrett era Floyd at all. The psychadelic, hippy-trippy nonsense of the first two albums does very little for me.
But The Division Bell is much more mature and enjoyable.
Piper at the Gates 2*, Division Bell 4*.

Well, it seems to be an interesting poll after all. When I write this, Piper and Bell have about the same amount of votes. Experiment versus sophisticated product.

Well, `Piper' is one of the defining psychedelic albums, nothing else sounds anything like it before or since. I seriously O/D'd on the album years ago. It will get my vote, but.... `The Division Bell' is a grand, melodic and emotional sophisticated adult rock album - and probably worth it for the subtle beauty of `Cluster One' and `Marooned' alone. Both wonderful albums!

It's funny how different opinions are.
No contest for me. Never understood what's to like about Piper...Don't get me wrong, there are some good songs there but the studio version is much weaker than any live version I heard.
So it's Division Bell by miles and miles and miles...

Easy one. Piper is one of the most important albums ever made. TDB is a good swan song, nice effort but nothing essential. It is much better than The Final Cut though.
