Man I love this album so much! Beautiful vocals with some really cool atmospheres behind, very eclectic and easy. Do you like it? |

The later My Dying Bride albums have a very cool symphonic-dark-goth feel but I really prefer the growling doom of "As the Flower Withers" best though I've never heard the early EP's...youtube here I come

Haven't checked the front page yet today. Outstanding review as always my friend, your descriptions are on the spot. This album is a real winner for me and I have a soft spot for it, it's one of those I'm always waiting for its turn to go in the Ipod |

Thanks Sagi! Yes, I've given it endless spins over the last few weeks. I was quite underwhelmed when I first heard it, but slowly it really grew on me and I find it hugely charming. Beautiful Mellotron so tastefully used throughout! Have you heard the reissue with the bonus tracks? They sound like they're from a different band altogether (which I guess in some ways they were!), but they were great as well! Do you know if any of those players ended up going on to do anything else of interest to prog fans?
Anyway, todays listening! November 8th 2013: Ayreon - Actual Fantasy Revisited Genesis - Trespass Hoelderlin - s/t Mellonta Tauta - s/t Gruppo 2001 - L'alba di Domani Arabs in Aspic - Pictures in a Dream Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - November 08 2013 at 08:03 |

Yes I have the CD version with the bonus tracks, totally different band I agree, but good overall, I still prefer he original album material. No I don't know if any of the members played in other projects, it's hard to keep track of everybody you know But what I would like is to get my hands on their second album in spite of its low rating here, I'm looking for it for years now and never came across it anywhere. |

Still Life's easily my favourite album of theirs, but Blackwater Park's great too, of course. Also, Deliverance really hit the spot this time around. Oh, yeah! Haven't heard Watershed or Ghost Reveries, but their next on my list of Opeth albums to check out. Anyway, Friday: Susanne Sundfør - The Brothel Genesis - A Trick of the Tail Änglagård - Viljans Öga Yesterday: Gentle Giant - Free Hand Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery Led Zeppelin - s/t Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV |

Sagi, I know what you mean. Doing a search on the net reveals not a single Youtube clip for either of those two additional related albums, or nothing but a bunch of dead links. Surely someone can come to our rescue with a reissue at some point. Perhaps this new release from Back Widow might be popular enough for them to consider licensing the other two?
Thank you Nick! I'm very touched, and it's very un-Jagman like of you! You're a good true friend! I can't wait to see the live DVD, not long now! As for that Ayreon `Actual Fantasy Revisited', so far it's the only Ayreon I own, but I've always quite liked it! I did mention on a post long ago that it was almost the definition of `prog-by-numbers' - `spacey keyboard solo here, epic guitar solo there, emotional vocal passage here, etc...', but I find it something of a (guilty?) pleasure? I think if you like the others, you can't go wrong if you find an affordable copy. From what I've heard of their other albums, this one is more...subdued and not quite so overblown! I don't really mean that as a criticism, just saying! |

Right on! I'm especially fond of "Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium" considering the time it was released. The most 'death metal' track, the speedy "God Is Alone", was my introduction to My Dying Bride which I heard in some death metal compilation my friend let me borrow back in 1992. It stood out from the other acts due to being a bit weirder and more original than much of the rest of the compilation (featuring bands like Unleashed, Asphyx, Malevolent Creation etc.). So I got that EP and the title track blew my mind. There was very little to compare it to back then. |
