Oh yeah indeed. Pyramid is amazing. Crank 'the eagle will rise again.' It's emotional. Lenny's voice is perfect. :) |

You know, Gabe, I kind of rip on that album a little, but at least half of it is nice, and that track....well, it reminds me of Homer with the massive sandwich - "Oh, how can I stay mad at you?!" Really makes me smile, Caravan can be such an awfully cheery band and I can dig it! Sam, I'll have to give `Battle of Hastings' a new spin....You should look into the new album then, too, as there's some nice stuff throughout out, especially after the first few tracks. Let us know how you go with that Roach track (well, album, it's 70 minutes long!), it sounded very promising! |

I listened to "Battle of Hastings" in one of those days I wanted to listen to simplier and not special music. It did the trick If that one of the most listenable musics of "The Album" I'll certainly skip it. I couldn't stop laughing at the drummer's moustache
Thanks, I'll get it tomorrow, my Internet speed at night is awful |

Ha! I like that song too; never seen that video before. They actually fade it out before it finishes!? What a joke!

By the way, Sam, I just got an email today via Steve Roach about a new free download for a 70 minute piece on his Bandcamp page (do you know how to download from them?), just quickly scanning through it sounds really nice!
https://steveroach.bandcamp.com/album/bloodmoon-rising Perhaps give that one a try, I will too |

Hmmm, Sam, I've got the CD of `Battle of Hastings', and...hmm, well, it's fairly polite and little dull. Nothing too special, but still pleasant. It's more or less about as good as their latest one `Paradise Filter', which I reviewed the other day.
Speaking of `The Album' (did I forget to mention I've actually got an very fancy mini LP edition of that one?! WHY?! , check out this video from the lead track off it! Oh, my eyes lol! Kill it with fire! Actually, I think it's a cute little song, and I can dig the bluesy guitar soloing from....I forget his name off the top of my head! I'll wait for your recommendations then.
I was already thinking about skiping "The Album" and the next one. I already listened to "The Battle of Hastings" by mistake (I didn't follow the release order) so I'll go for "Breakfast" next I never listened to that PFM album, but I probably will, since I don't know what PFM album I should listen next. Cool song indeed and very psychedelic video |

Thank you and quite a gem it is! I also was going to buy "Pyramid" and I saw how highly you spoke about it the other day, but because of a bad impulse, I bought the Supertramp album, which I already had on CD (there's no facepalm emoticon in here ). Although I only listened that Eloy album once on progstreaming, I think it's very good: they managed to improve the newer songs a lot |

Sam, I'll have to have to think about which Steve Roach album from the ones I have that I can recommend, althought that `Structures From Silence' is a pretty fine one...Not love at first listen, but I've had it for a long time and it's really grabbed hold of me!
For todays selections: Steve Hackett - Defector, Till We Have Faces Qirsh - Sola Andata Jack Hertz - Black Sea Mad Fellaz - s/t (sublime instrumental prog) New Eden Orchestra - Vikings (Glass Hammer and Ayreon fans would dig this one) Caravan - The Album (Ooh, Sam, some of this one pushes the Caravan friendship a little! ) P.F.M - Chocolate Kings (The vocals are a bit dorky and unlovable, but there's some great stuff scattered throughout this one, the bass playing especially a highlight) P.F.M - A.D 2010 La Buona Novella (Perhaps a bit overlong and samey after a few tracks, but really a lovely album from them! The warmth of the vocals is incredible) Mahogany Frog - Senna How cool is this track from the album?! A beautiful romantic infectious humming instrumental! Much of the rest of the album is quite noisy. |

^^ wonderful SAM and MICHAEL!
Really love your vinyl pics in the vinyl thread, Sam. That APP album is nothing short of a amazing. Best debut album I can think of from any artist. Such a gem. Micheal--The meanderings that you describe aren't very apparent to my ears seeing as how I have been very very selective with Hogarth Marillion era albums. I have this feeling that I've selected the best from his era to own and enjoy regularly. (Marbles, Seasons end, strange engine, Brave and sounds that can't be made) I have enjoyed all of these immensely, but to go beyond this I think I will get disappointed. Making the stuff you mentioned will be apparent. I just know it. ;) Holidays in Eden kind of worries me. My spidey sense goes on saying 'this one isn't for you.' Lol. As for ELOY. Their live album is exceptional. Prepare for Bornemann to release the doves on guitar! Lol. They play the classics man. Can't lose. ;) Last night and today.... History of the Blues--PT1 (compilation) Threshold-- the ravages of time (disc 1) Threshold--March In Progress Headspace--I am Anonymous Good morning Vietnam--motion picture soundtrack ( my tribute to Robin Williams) The Orb--Metallic Spheres Threshold--Hypothetical Redemption--Snowfall On Judgement Day Redemption--This Mortal Coil. |

I have to pay attention to Caravan's lyrics and I see that this is one of their qualities. I'll have to read them while I'm listening because it requires much more concentration than listening to portuguese music I hope I didn't give the impression that I didn't like Focus 3. I really liked it, specially Anonymous Two, I couldn't stop toe-tapping on this one Speaking of Symphonic and portuguese music, do you know "Ascenção e Queda" by Petrus Castrus? I'd like to have your objective opinion on this one, since I don't know if it's really good or the lack of decent portuguese prog makes me like it very much. By the way, I read your Steve Roach review yesterday and I find it interesting. What can you recommend from him besides the album you reviewed? Edited by Meltdowner - October 07 2014 at 07:11 |
