Indeed. BTW, love your avatar. That's probably my favorite GG album. A classic.

One song that always impressed me in terms of being ahead of its time and incorporating some fascinating textures and musical contrasts was the song Schooldays. Such a haunting piece.

I just bought the record a few weeks ago!! Of course, I've already listened to it MANY times before, but I now have the 'official' version! Peel the Paint one of my favorite GG songs ever. Though, sadly I have the U.S. gatefold, looks the same as the debut cover. None of those seagulls, like your picture, Metaller Ouch

Nick Davis is a quality sound engineer. He is very good at mixing an album as well. I have found no fault in this pressing.
The loudness factor or brightness people may complain about is largely due to their music source or gear.
Davis engineers albums tailored to pair with HIFI Audio equipment, so the right Speakers, amps and DACS will surely prove just how great the 2008 remaster is and what a fine engineer Davis is.
Listening to Davis's mixes through a naked digital signal will sound quite piercing or bright in some areas.
The album is meant for analog!! Anyway. I love it. Not one hiccup or flaw in the recording. It's quality. Glad you like it too.
THE LAMIA is sublime. :)

Nick Davis is a good engineer, but I'll be honest and say that I like the original mix of this album. In fact, right now I'm listening to the original Atco issue with no remastering whatsoever and I'm quite enjoying it. I'll be honest and say that these new remixes do hurt my ears over extended listening, but I think the older recordings benefited more from the remixing than albums like A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering, although I haven't heard the original of this album (yet).
Have you heard all the originals?

I have. now what I can say as to why I like the remastered editions by Davis a hell of a lot more is because the overall soundstage and vocals are pushed forward without compromising nuances to be heard or instruments losing their natural tonalities. However, it's as I said, if you run these (Davis) remasters through a straight digital signal it's gonna sound like poo. I know what you are talking about. To get the warmth, include a quality DAC in your sound chain and you'll be amazed at what you hear difference wise. Sound engineering is an under appreciated art and unfortunately a bit archaic to many because not everyone will invest good coin into building a quality audio empire, so sometimes good engineers and producers go very unnoticed. We are sadly living in the digital age where a lot of people are downloading compressed music files and running them through their sh*t laptop speakers.
I trust you understand. Happy listening. :)

Yesterday and today.

IQ--Frequency
IQ--TFLTA (2013 remix and original 1983 pressing.)
Rush--Hold Your Fire. (It's a good album. Don't care what anyone says)
The Gathering--Mandylion. (Absolutely brilliant vocals from AVG. ;)
Godsmack--1000 Horsepower. (2X. )
Pink Floyd--The Division Bell (2011 remaster. It doesn't get any better than this recording wise. Musically it's absolute bliss. Had a wonderful time revisiting this album. )

Ah, Sagi, performing the Ritual of the Alien, are we?!

How good is that album, well, both of their albums?! I think I prefer the first one a litte, if only because the almost metal-riffs on the second one make it a little less...imaginative? Geez, still amazing works though! Dark Zeuhl mixed with gothic qualities and Italian theatrical drama!

Tako...is that the album with the toy robot on the front?! If so, I kid you not, I just put my CD of it in the car yesterday! I've had the disc for almost a year, got it with a bunch of other titles in a Syn-Phonic order, and it kind of got pushed to the back and ignored. Will let you know how I go, although the brief spin I gave it months ago seemed good.

I've sadly been away a bit, just run down and busy with work, just been overdosing on Tangerine Dream, and because it was or less just making my way through a ton of their albums each day, I figured my post from a few days back covered it!

Just today I picked up some CD's for a few dollars each to also take on the trip down to see my folks tomorrow morning. I got Curved Air's `Phantasmagoria' (haven't listened to it in years), Klaus Shulze's `Picture Music' and `Mirage' (just upgrading to CD while my turntable is out of action, thanks for the reminder Meltdowner!! ) and the remastered CD's of Rush's `2012' (one of the only Rush albums I know very well) and - drum roll, Sagi - `Permanent Waves', which I have NEVER heard so far....so wish me luck!

Was it because I was listening to Shulze the other day?
I hope you like 'Permanent Waves', it's a really great album. I was just yesterday learning 'The Spirit of Radio' on the guitar Tongue
Continuing the TD saga, have you listened to Booster from 2007? I'm listening to it right now and it sounds like 'Hyperborea'. It has also some versions from the classic era albums. Thumbs Up

Yes Michael UTO are fantastic! Definitely a unique band. I actually havent listened to The Magus in years I can't even remember any of it right now, but I've got it on my iphone so I'll be listening to it sometime soon.

About Tako you might be referring to the s/t debut (a hand watch with eyes on the cover). I was listening to the second album which is a little better I think, again I haven't listened to it in years. Good album overall but nothing's essential.

Oh and you can't go wrong with pre Moving Pictures Rush! If you already enjoy the band

Meltdowner - Yes! It made me realise that while I've been overdosing on all Tangerine Dream, all the time mostly the last week, I've been ignoring Schulze!! So finding those two CD's today have made me make apact to start giving his albums just as much a workout next week!

Sagi - Yes, you are right about Tako, it IS a wrist-watch now that I look closer! Yeah, I'm looking forward to `Moving Pictures'! I really like `2012' and `Hemispheres' album, so I'm hoping for the best. I have to admit, I've been a bit...stuffy about Rush, they sometimes have made my eyes roll because I think `Damn metalheads, always going on about Rush...' , but I know the truth is because they really are rather good and have their status for a reason!

Oh, and I should ask...the same store also had the remaster of `Fly By Night' for a few dollars as well, is that one worth going back to get? I didn't grab it simply because I really knew nothing about it, just that it was from before `2012', which is the earliest one I have.
