Cat Stevens - Catch Bull at Four

And my favorite John Frusciante release, which was a simple and stripped down EP.  Four perfect, emotional tracks....

Your thoughts on this one, my friend? I picked up a CD of it a couple of months back and quite like it, although the oriental themes make it a little more limiting for me. A fine album, but I would likely choose many others of his over that one. But I start nightshift for a week in a few days, and that's when I like to most listen to my ambient/electronic albums, so I should give it a play on my Ipod then.

I've bought a few cheaper CD's these last two days off, but barely been able to listen to anything, except the new Prince album! Sagi, you know I rate the Purple Phreak very highly, and I walked into a local music store on Friday to discover he's released not one, but TWO new studio albums on the one day!

Prince - Art Official Age - He's not exactly reinventing the wheel on this one, but it's a top-notch pop/psych/funk collection of very melodic tracks, and he sounds very focused and modern on it. Heaps of variety, lots of colour, and every chorus is a winner. If only all pop music was as good, vibrant and well played as this.

Ha, and check out the cool as heck front cover!

^ you're losing it Michael

BTW a friend of mine is gonna lend me his N.E.W.S album, I can't say I wasn't intrigued by your comments, the problem is he lives very far from me so I'm not sure when that's gonna happen.

Yesterday for me

Knifeworld - The Unravelling ( Damn I'm so proud of this album!)
Chrome Hoof - Chrome Black Gold
Delivery - Fools Meeting
Necromonkey - Necroplex
Kotebel - Concerto For Piano...(only the first half actually)

This one gets better after every spin, although my favourite tracks on this one are the first two and I lose some interest after those. It's also difficult to not fall asleep while I'm listening to it (I generally do LOL).

Do you know the Egonon album I listened to? It's the heavier RPI album I have ever listened Cool

I never paid much attention to Prince's music: what do you recommend from him?

I think I'm feeling wistful in my...oldening age lol! Actually, I'm only 38, but when I read comments inside the CD sleeve for that Prince album that says `There used to be a time when music was a spiritual healing for the body, soul and mind...', I'm pretty moved by Prince's sincerity!

I would have supplied you some Youtube clips for `N.E.W.S', but I think I've mentioned before that Price really stamped down on Youtube clips of his music years ago, so it's very difficult to hear them.

Ha! Your Kotobel comment made me smile, because I often only get through that first half as well! the first four tracks essentially feel like they're their own album, the rest are bonus tracks!

Sam, I often rave about two Prince albums called `The Rainbow Children', which is the closest the guy has come to making a full-blown prog rock album, and especially `N.E.W.S', an instrumental jazz/funk/fusion album. Both were pretty much commercial suicide for the guy, but musically he sounded completely reinvigorated and freed!

But make no mistake, Prince is primarily a pop artist, it's just that the guy fills his music so lots of little quirky psychedelic moments, and he makes very clever and intelligent pop music. No an easy combination!

I'll plan to listen to `China' in the next few nights again.

I'm finishing 'The Rainbow Children' and I think it's a very good album, certainly better than his radio-friendly music. The guitar work is quite impressive too. Thumbs Up
The narrator reminds me of Rush's The Necromancer Tongue

Hey, glad you dug it, Sam! Yep, all the guitar work is from the little fella himself! Definitely picked up on some Santana vibes in a few spots! As you could probably tell, it's a pretty schizophrenic albums, probably too ambitious for it's own good, but there's that classic self-indulgent prog influence right there! Oh, and all sorts of sped up/slowed down voices (again, the man himself) are another trademark of many of his albums. Thanks for taking the time to listen to it! Give `N.E.W.S' a try next!
