^ I heard about Triana but never listened to them: how's that album?

Today:
Franz Ferdinand - s/t
Knall - Knall
Yes - Close to the Edge (I don't listen to this album often, because I don't want to get tired of it. It's shivering from beginning to end Big smile)
Slapp Happy - Casablanca Moon, Desperate Straights
Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues
Dave Brubeck - Countdown: Time in Outer Space

^   "Hijos Del Agobio" by Triana is an excellent album. I liked it so much I ordered two more CDs.
It's heavier symphonic rock with some Flamenco style influence. The Spanish vocals are powerful
and the musicianship is outstanding. The guitar work stands out, both electric and acoustic.

My own last two days choices:

Reale Accademia di Musica – s/t
F.E.M Prog Band – Sulla Bolla di Sapone
Maxophone – s/t (I totally get why you like this album so much, Sagi, it’s a knockout, great from beginning to end. Lord that opening minute kicks so much ass!
P.F.M – Per un Amico
Abiogenesi – Io Sono il Vampiro
Eloy – Ocean 2
Riverside – Shrine of the New Generation Slaves

La Conscienza di Zena - La Notte Anche di Giorno - Sam, I do like this one, but holy LORD the vocals never stop. A terrific vocalist, but I just wish he'd stop singing more often. There's only a few spots with longer instrumental breaks, and I wish there were more. One other problem - it reminds me a lot of that Locanda Della Fate album from the 70's, which was all a bit too sickly sweet, and I'm finding the swooning never-ending vocals reminds me a lot of that album. Very nicely performed all the same.

Thumbs Up
Yeah it's pretty flawless for my taste, except for the material, the playing and the ideas which are all superb, another thing I like about it is that it has a perfect balance between all the ingredients, rocking parts, jazzy parts, symphonic parts, instrumental and vocal led. Even the bonus tracks are great, not as progy as the album's material but still great imo.

For me yesterday

Egonon - Risveglio
Kaukasus - I
Fusioon - S/T
Renaissance - Novella
Yeti - Things To Come
Fusion Orchestra 2 - Casting Shadows
Arabs In Aspic - Strange Frame Of Mind

Michael how is that Reale Accademia di Musica album coming along?

Love that album, especially 'The Answer', the choir mixed with the heavy guitars is beautiful. Clap

Today for me:
Otep - Atavist
Overkill - Years of Decay
Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery

I adore that album, Pastmaster! Have you heard their most recent album `Visionary' from a few years back? Well, I feel it was pretty much a tired dud, an uninspired retread, so much so that I wish they'd actually ended on `Ocean 2' all those years ago (and it really seemed liked they had). That was such a big statement from the band, and it encompased both the early and 80's styles of the band together beautifully!

^Yeah, I've heard Visionary. I thought it was pretty good, I love the opening 'The Refuge'. I do have to agree though that besides the opener, it was kind of bland.

That sounds interesting, I'll give them a listen Smile

Very good choices Thumbs Up

I noticed the guy sings a lot, also by the fact that it starts immediately with vocals, but I didn't mind since I like the vocals... it's far from VDGG's annoying level LOL The French female vocals were a nice change though. I don't know that LDF album that well, so I didn't notice that. New Trolls is the most sickly sweet Italian band I know Tongue

You know, I was going to send you a message about that! When I put it on in the car for the first time today, it just bursts into that vocal track, and I kind of thought `Ah crap, I mucked up the tracklisting when I burned the CD' (which I do quite often, press the wrong thing and the album is burned out of order - it happened recently with my Sexione Frenante album!

Oh, don't get me wrong, the guy is a tremendous vocalist, a very warm tone that is nothing like the histrionic screeching of mr VdGG! I'll keep at the album, don't worry.

You should look into that LDF album, Sam (I'll post it below). It's considered by many to be a Seventies RPI classic, and it is lovely, but I find I can barely make it to the half way point, just too sweet and swooning the whole time - but the opening instrumental is top-notch! See how you go...There is no shortage on those who rate it very highly...I'm just not one of them, I guess, but I certainly don't regret owning it at all.

Heh, you might be right about the New Trolls! `Concerto Grosso' not a favourite, then?

^ I played the original so I didn't thought it was a mistake. I had that thought when I got my vinyl copy of Yes' TFTO, that starts that way as well, but I noticed the digital version has an intro before the vocals.

I didn't expect you were going to give up at first listen Wink

I heard that Locanda album once, it wasn't a very attentive listen but I really liked what I heard. I'm thinking about getting a LP copy someday Smile

Not a big fan :/

Sam, the very first thing I do with ALL of my CD's is burn them right away. I had a car years ago that used to scratch my CD's mercilessly, and even though I drive a much nicer car these days, I still am very particular about preserving my albums!

Who knows, you may love that Locanda one as well. I guess I ackowledge its popularity and status more than truly loving the album myself. I'm glad there's a ton of others that it means more to than me, but I can think of...probably 50 RPI albums more exciting that I'd place before it...but hopefully I never have to make that list!

^ You know I feel the same as you about LDF Michael, too sweet and the songs seems so long too! Said that I'd still recommend the album because it is still a very good one, and you're right my favourite track would be the opener too Approve

^^ I usually don't play CD's in the car: since my car radio has a USB port, I rip my CD's to a USB drive Smile

LDF is within the sweetness limit for me, just like Latte e Miele is: with a name like that we already expect something sweet LOL

Exactly, Sagi! Absolutely in no way a bad album, but yes, far too sweet (and good call on the length of the tracks too. Probably another reason why I don't often get more than half way through), and, you know....even some of the keyboards are a bit too pretty and romantic too much of the time?

I'm 39, Sam - too young to be a bitter old man, yet older than youngsters, so the thought of playing mp3's/USB in my car frightens and confuses me!

Speaking of Latte e Miele, I have due on my doorstep any day now (probably tomorrow) `Papillon' (a double CD version with both the Italian and English versions), is it any good? I got it for a very decent price, so I was eager to give it a try.

LOL If you listen to LDF, you'll never become bitter Tongue

I heard Papillon once last year, it's not as good as Passio but it's still a very good album Smile

I did spin a bit of it on Youtube (but not too much, I want to feel that `new album' excitement when it arrives! ), and it sounded lovely without being too challenging or complex.

I've got a couple of others titles arriving with it:

Formula 3 - Le Granda Casa
Area - Event '76
Biglietto per L'Inferno - Il Tempo Della Semina

and (ahem!)

a double CD compilation of the two `Concerto Grosso' New Trolls albums, as I didn't have originals of them!
