With the LDF album, I bought the Live In Bloom LP several years back, and was real impressed with it, so when the luscious translucent blue vinyl re-issue came about, I grabbed it and indulged...... (Love it - 4 stars for my assessment) but I'm baffled for a seasoned RPI lover to be, somewhat, short-changed for it. Dunno what more to say..........
(I edit coz spellcheck really is an epic-fail.......)

We can't all like the same artists, even if a lot of people do. VdGG are a highly regarded band and I have a hard time finishing any of their albums.

Speaking as a seasoned RPI fan here (hoho) I too find it nigh on impossible to get through that album. Feels like lotion on butter to these ears. I miss a little snarl and bark - the edge. Nah give me the two Quella Vecchia Locanda albums over it any day; two albums that are in the same ballpark as LDF yet still manage to hold my attention.

^ Y'know, that major QVL album is a ripper, bar one issue I have : the violin sounds a frad off-key. Still a very cool album. I guess it's on-par with the LDF album for my tastes.

Yep, Tom, the very same! I can't stomach it for too long...it's too pretty, too swooning all the time. I love the opening instrumental, but then once the vocals hit, they pretty much dominate the music the rest of the way, and I get very bored after about 20 minutes or so. I know many consider it a classic, and it sure is lovely, but for me personally it's just too sweet all the time. I can think of dozens and dozens of other Italian discs I'd prefer to listen to.

Yes, I'm slowly putting a ton of it back on my Ipod after that crash a month or two back! It's been great, the `crash' was kind of freeing! It's helped me work out what albums are the essentials and which I never listened to.

Panna Fredda's `Uno' is an RPI album from 1971, a real grower! Tom, I'm pretty sure we both ordered this at the same time? We got a nice LP reissue of it, and it's become another personal favourite, even if there's plenty of more important and essential titles. The last track in particular is quite ambitious.

Heh...that's actually one of the more charming facets to the album - that slightly off-key violin.
Sorta like a velvety smooth Italian take on Chris Karrer.

Oh and that Panna Freda album is outstanding! Talk about charm...
One of those early RPI releases that truly sounds like it was recorded in a broom cupboard - yet for some inexplicable reason still works.

It can't be all bad Tongue

It's one of the earliest RPI albums then? It's quite good so far, it's heavy with lots of organ. It reminds of Atomic Rooster Smile

Panna Fredda - Uno -= AWESOME. I haven't spun my LP for a while, must get back to it. It has 2 bonus 'Pop' cuts which are forgettable.

With all the talk of Panna Fredda, I'm more convinced than ever that it's a bit of an early stunner! I've always loved it, but I think it's actually better than its fairly meek reputation suggests!

Sam, would you have heard this early RPI disc from 1972 (I think)?

Hardly an important one, but very cool for an early disc. I've got a mini LP that comes with a bonus disc of a complete live concert, but I think it's just had a vinyl reissue as well? That cover art is kind of way ahead of it's time too!
