I'm trying to discover some newish prog bands, since 90% of what I listen to is from the 70's.
Some stuff I really like is Birds and Buildings, Astra, most of Echolyn's stuff, most of Beardfish's stuff (especially SIT part 2), Discipline, and Anglagard.

I'm not really into any metal related stuff. I tried Porcupine Tree, since I had been told they are a lot like Pink Floyd, but they don't do much for me either.  I briefly listened to some of Neal morse's stuff and it was okay, almost kinda cheesy tbh.... but i'll see if it grows on me.

Any suggestions?

Agreed, it's a fantastic album.
Check out Steven Wilson's solo music. He's the singer in Porcupine Tree, but his solo projects don't incorporate metal at all really.
His first solo album, Insurgentes, has lots of influence from noise and drone music, whereas his second, Grace for Drowning is quite similar to stuff that you might hear from the 70s, but with a more modern twist. Definitely check out GfD, it's an amazing album. He has a new album coming out in a few weeks which is apparently terrific, but I haven't heard it.

Riverside

Pain of Salvation

I know what you mean about Neal Morse, pfloyd. I enjoyed Transatlantic's album Bridge Across Forever very much, and I enjoyed their album The Whirlwind, mostly.

So I listened to some of the Mars Volta's album, it was pretty good. Didn't blow me away, a bit to heavy for me, and I didn't like the singer that much.

I fell in love with Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon upon my first listen. This particular track is instrumental, but they do have vocals as well.

Also +1 to Transatlantic. I prefer their first album "SMPTe", but they're all good.

So far I'm liking Transatlantic a lot, especially their song Duel with Devil, awesome stuff. ^ And that  Phideaux track is bad ass, probably gonna buy that album now.

Great suggestions, thanks!

The Phideaux went straight to the top of my 'to buy' list. I will need to dig out Snowtorch which I do own and play it tonight.

I almost recommended RPWL to you, and then my memory kicked in and I remembered recommending them to you before.  http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=85373&KW=&PID=4451622#4451622

You might like to give Porcupine Tree another chance with their live album "Coma Divine"... there they mainly play songs from the first albums in which Wilson was the only member playing all (or most of) the songs, but now with the whole band to back him up (with their first drummer). There's just about no metal parts in this album, and in many parts it reminds me of earlier Pink Floyd, like the stuff they did on "Ummagumma" (specially the live disc) and "Live at Pompeii".

Glass Hammer. Pretty much anything they have done since Chronomotree is worth checking out. Perhaps avoid Three Cheers For The Broken Hearted as that was a divergence which didn't go well with the fans. 'If' is probably their most highly rated album and the most recent Perilous is excellent. Of the earlier ones Lex Rex or Shadowlands are a good way into this very fine symphonic prog band.

I'm really digging their newest album, and i normally hate neo prog. this song in particular is awesome:
pink floyd meets metal.
