I like The Ballad of Big. Great chorus. ;)

I love this song and especially this bit:

He was scared , Big Jim was scared
Alive they called him lucky but not today
Cos he died like all good cowboys
with his boots on next to his men

Since Duke is winning this easily, I'll drop a vote for the much maligned 'Shapes' album. I really love that thing. Abacab is wonderful too.

Between Duke and Abacab, the latter has the most songs im familiar with to start off with, but i would vote for both anyway if that was possible

You know Richard, when I think about those lyrics and how they are sung I don't think Gabriel would pull it off or make it work not nearly as well as Collins. Boy, amazing how Phil really took over the Genesis machine when Gabriel and of course Hacket leaving. I'm just saying that a lot of the songs fit Phil's desires sound wise and criteria for music vision.
Pop was slowly leeching it's way in....but not in a bad way....entirely. ;)
I know ABACAB depressed the sh*t out of you. Lol

I still don't know too many albums that blend pop and Prog, so nicely together. It's DUKE by a large margin for me still. :)
I look at the way that album was constructed and I think it's genius. Some very odd metering in the drumming on Turn it On again. A great example of how the technical and accessible can join forces and sound great. DUKE is full of these meriments. :)

I actually do like some of Abacab . Dodo/Lurker could be one of the best tracks Genesis ever recorded and I am aware there is a longer version and have heard it. Clearly they felt under pressure to leave behind their prog roots which is a shame really.
BTW Have you heard the Sound Of Contact album Nicholas? Think you may like it.

I have. I felt it was a fair debut. The album even inspired me enough to write a review on it, which I don't do very often.
I really liked I AM (DIMENSIONAUT) Simon sounds so much like his father on that one.
It's excellent.

I'm a bit surprised Abacab is so lowly regarded. I think it's the most original and experimental album the trio version of Genesis ever did. Maybe people don't like it because it's not as "Genesisy" as something like Duke, but Abacab is the album for me that justifies them as a trio and a different (but still creative) group than what came before.

As an objective and progressive opinion, ATTWT is the best, but as a subjective and an opinion from the heart, I love Genesis Shapes, this album is killer, although it could have a couple of not strong tracks. So I will vote for it.

All I need is a TV show, that and the radio Down on my luck again, down on my luck again
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

I heard this version once thanks to someone who posted in on this site. I think I didn't like the added minutes at the beginning of the song, but the ones at the end were great. Do you know if there's any way to get this version of the song?

And Then There Were Three. Not absolutely sure that's outside the classic era really.. (post-Hackett I suppose).

Nice to see DUKE being the favored in this poll. Glad I'm not the only one who sees and hears just how gargantuanly special this album is. Always a great listen from start to finish.
