It's 1987 and personnel changes are the order of the day.  Marillion holds the top slot with the last album they would record with Fish, IQ showcases a new sound without Peter Nichols and Pink Floyd returns to our poll with the Roger Waters-less Momentary Lapse.  The biggest musical event of 1987 was the prog world (and the music world in general) experiencing shock over the Grammy awards where Jethro Tull's "Crest of a Knave" won the heavy metal award over highly favoured Metallica and Jane's Addiction.  Was it a mistake?  Was it a joke?  Was a judge a closet Tull fan?  Maybe all of the above!  Years later Ian Anderson explained the real reason Tull won the heavy metal category, "The flute is a heavy, metal instrument" LOL 

Once again, these are the top 25 PA ranked albums with at least 30 ratings presented in order of their QWR scores highest to lowest (30 ratings is the lowest I've had to go to fill this poll series with entries...1987 is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel).

Hmm, quite difficult. There's not really anything there that catches my eye, but I'd probably go for "Hold Your Fire"

Clutching at Straws for me.

I have to say that Crest of a Knave winning a heavy metal award is unbelievable as it's not heavy metal, nor is it very good, though there are a few good tracks.

Hold Your Fire - it grew on me slowly but it's one of my favorite Rush albums nowadays.

Clutching at Straws, Crest of a Knave, and the David Sylvian album are all quite nice too.   As is the Floyd.

What people seem to "forget" about the Tull Grammy is that it was for "Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance".  Not that they should have won it, but it wasn't saying that Tull was metal. 

I like the album, but vote here for CaS.

Narrowed it down to "Crest of a Knave", "Momentary Lapse", or "Clutching".  Went with "Crest" as out of those 3 it was the one I played the most...I really like how Martin Barre reinvented himself on that album trading his traditional rock/blues approach for some whammy bar heavy soloing..though I hate voting for an album with the horrible lyric "She wouldn't make love but she could make good sandwiches"...really Ian, really?  Ermm

still some life left in them. London is a great track (yes really) and the reissue has the excellent bonus track 21st Century Common Man. I don't believe that the dalliance with a classically trained female singer was totally wasted as they much later returned this 'idea' with one of my favourite TD albums Purgatorio about 10 years ago..
