Vinyl, on the other hand, can't be downloaded so it has an inherently higher value as it's condition and availability become driving factors.

And I'll NEVER stop writing. Big smile

Surely agree that not so few prices on Discogs are totally crazy, and I really don't understand their point, as they can be twice as much as the average price for the available items. Further, and worse, many prices seem to me today aim at profit which can't be said to be fair.

And not because your writing bother me, on the contrary. Smile
I'm unsure if you understand the pricing in Discogs. Discogs does not set any pricing, the people selling there set the prices, it's like eBay. Sellers on Discogs range from individuals like you and me to music stores selling their inventory.
The prices can be whatever, but normally are based on the availability of records or CDs, but mainly records. If a record is out of print and highly desirable the price will reflect that. If a title is not desirable or you can find copies in the wild easily then the price will not be so high.
For sure anything rare or was only issued once or limited release will be very expensive. I have many, many records I paid $30 for that now list for $100-$300 because the record has not been reissued again or that variant was limited, almost all of my early Riverside albums are like that.
Pink Floyd~Pulse was a classic example. The 4-LP box set was going for $500 until last year when it finally got reissued by Pink Floyd records and the price dropped to $100.....Then all those new issues were sold within a month and the price jumped back up to $300 as a high. They were sold at $99 from the Pink Floyd store, but now if you want one it will cost you about $200 for sealed.
That's how free trade markets work! Clap

Even capitalist countries are civilized, brother, where people are supposed to think about proper ethics - but I agree that it's much more complicated than that. Wink

Anyway, I can't imagine that the very high level of prices for used vinyl will continue for very long time yet. I see it as a kind of
gold fever which won't go on - if for no other reason, because the supply will increase.

How is that exactly ? Are you suggesting as the aging collectors give up the ghost their collection will flood the market?

1. More used vinyl coming from the present and previous collectors
2. New reissues of old(er) releases which will have the same effect on the total supply - and even probably mostly at significantly
lower prices than the used old(er) releases.

No David….
The expensive records will remain expensive because they probably are the rare titles that will not be reissued again.
You can buy a 2016 reissue of DSOtM for $30 it sounds dang good. But that has not devalued a first pressing that still sell for $2-3K.
Records are not traded like a commodity say oil or gold…..

Anyway, if talking about vinyl Best Buys, this is my best recommendation - and even excellent Prog and a 500 copies limited edition:

My record store pull from yesterday. First time shopping in a while. An unusually good pull :)

Dylan Carlson is the guitarist for Earth, btw. This album would have been really good, but it is just too short at only half hour, unfortunately. Also without Adrienne's driving from Earth, it does feel like something is missing, but the drones are really good!

I actually tend to prefer CDs to vinyl, mostly because CDs are more versatile, less of a pain in the ass to take care of, and, most importantly, considerably cheaper than vinyl. I only prefer vinyl if an album is mastered horribly on CD. But these ones are somewhat hard to come across, especially on CD, so I took them as they were well-ish priced ($38 for the entire haul including the three vinyls and one CD).

Someone(s) here seem(s) to have found my recommendation to be fine, as the only good offer from USA, coming from the record company, is now sold out, as it must have been their last copy(ies). If so, I'm happy about it, but anyway there's now only one more not-expensive offer left, from Germany.

Plus one in Japan of the Japanese release ( https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/14672071?ev=rb ) - an obi-insert alone seems to be added to this "release", so the total is still only 500 vinyl copies of this album worldwide to present day.

Round these parts, I find it really hard to locate a VG++ of any KC. I have that Gryphon album on Bell records from 1974.
I guess whichever you can find in VG++/NM would be my choice...or all of them!! Clap

To be honest, I don't expect to find any of these in any decent shape around these parts, and by that I mean in North America. I have found some overseas and they are dear, $100 by the time you factor in shipping.

I'll chime in...

I'm lucky enough to have a couple of cool shops locally that seem to get in solid quality pre-owned vinyl. Excluding water damage and/or terminal scratching, I tend to only buy albums from the original vinyl era.

Here's a short list of some recent grabs:

Chris Squire - Fish Out Of Water
Crow - Best Of Crow
Uriah Heep - s/t (dragon cover)
Yes - Drama
Yes - s/t
Rare Bird - Somebody's Watching
Genesis - Trespass
Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
Mountain - Climbing!
Spooky Tooth - Spooky Two
Gentle Giant - Free Hand
Gentle Giant - Interview
UFO - No Place To Run
Alice Cooper - Goes To Hell
Nektar - Magic If A Child
U.K. - s/t

Just picked up:
Pendragon - Passion
Comus - Out of the Coma   white/black splatter
Oh, for the wings of any bird, other than a battery hen

I paid no more than $9 for any given title. A couple I only paid $2-$3 for.
