I recently got GG Three Friends LP that was listed as NM, but upon playing I experience loud and sustained 'crackling' surface noise, for lack of better term, during softer passages. I had already given the vinyl what I consider to be a deep cleaning (manually) but it didn't seem to make a difference. The Vinyl LOOKS clean enough with only the slightest hint of 'scuff' so the noise appears to be something deeper than surface damage.
Have you ever been able to recondition an album like that?
So I have a Project VC-S RCM, image below. That is my first cleaning process that allows me to scrub nasty records in both directions and then vacuum. Then I use the US cleaner, only distilled water for a 15 min cycle at about 34c temp, then I vacuum them off, image below.
That process has proved to work really well in removing a lot of noise. I have done the process a couple of times and if the noise remains then you can be sure it's groove damage from older records played using ceramic conical stylus, most people back then did not have the type of carts we have today.
The good thing, is that the noise is usually on the surface and a fine line elliptical or microline stylus will go below the surface to the more pristine part of the groove, reducing the amount of noise you currently might hear....But that requires an investment in a higher end cartridge.
The US one I bought is a Vevor, comes with everything you see in the image and I paid I think USD225.00....there is noway in hell I'm buying one of those audiophile US machines that run up to USD$3K
Hope that helps....

Is this an accurate method. Any comments?
What's the solution they (or you) use?
And where do you stash the ShopVac I hear? LOL

EDIT
One last thought. Why wouldn't you do the US cleaning first to loosen and clear the groove contamination and THEN do the wash and vac to get deeper into the grooves which would make to TT ready? I'm trying to better understand the process.

Person is not doing a water rinse. That is critical to removing all the cleaner also only 3 spins is needed or u can introduce static.
I’ve done both US first and last, either way I dry using the RCM.

Nope….the box set is too digital heavy for me. And I’ve read the LP is better than the Bernie Grundman 2016 but not much. It does not beat the 2003 30th anniversary version which I have. The Bernie version you can get for $30-$35 all day. Gets you 85% of the 50th probably.

@JD for solution I use the Project Wash*t. I feel it works great. And the US I only use distilled water….I may experiment with some stuff soon.

I can buy it for $59.99 500ml bottle, that will last me two years easy if not more. It's a concentrate have to mix it with distilled water either 1:10 or 1:20 ratio.

Actually much longer, the bottle that comes with the machine is only 100ml...I bet that 500ml would last me 4 yrs.

I'm going to try this for the US cleaner, same price as the Wash*t....It's a 32oz bottle and you only use about 4ml per liter of distilled water.
