1 Selling England By The Pound (10/10) I absolutely adore this album, what gives it it's edge is the Cinema Show solo. Dancing With The Moonlit Knight 9.3 I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) 8.6 Firth Of Fifth 9.8 More Fool Me 8.2 The Battle Of Epping Forest 9.1 After The Ordeal 8.4 The Cinema Show 9.6 Aisle Of Plenty 8.8
2 Foxtrot (10/10) Supper's Ready is my all time favorite song, heck, it might even be the best. Watcher Of The Skies 9.2 Time Table 8.5 Get 'em Out By Friday 8.7 Horizons 8.1 Can-Utility And The Coastliners 8.3 Supper's Ready 10
3 The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (9/10) I love this album, but it gets a little spotty with songs like The Grand Parade Of Lifeless Packaging, The Waiting Room and Silent Sorrow In Empty Boats but the better songs are absolutely amazing. 4 A Trick Of The Tail (9/10) Great album, the songs are great, all of them are, but the thing that edged out The Lamb is that the great songs on that album are better than the ones on this one. 5 Wind And Wuthering (9/10) Some of Tony Banks' best work is on this album, the songs are very good (especially the first two). Eleventh Earl Of Mar 8.9 One For The Vine 9 Your Own Special Way 8.3 Wot Gorilla? 8.6 All In A Mouse's Night 8.7 Blood On The Rooftops 8.8 'Unquiet Slumbers For Sleepers 8.2 ...in That Quiet Earth 8.3 Afterglow 8.9
6 Nursery Cryme (9/10) This album is a significant album in Genesis' history, it was their best album to date, until next year's Foxtrot, and even though The Musical Box is an epic, Supper's Ready is much better. The Musical Box 9.1 For Absent Friends 8.4 The Return Of The Giant Hogweed 8.5 Seven Stones 8.8 Harold The Barrel 8.7 Harlequin 8.5 The Fountain Of Salmacis 8.6
7 Trespass(8/10) Some great songs on there, shows a lot of promise, but not quite as good as Nursery Cryme. Looking For Someone 8.4 White Mountain 8.5 Visions Of Angels 8.7 Stagnation 8.3 Dusk 8.4 The Knife 8.9
I don't know much about the other albums, some parts of this list may not be 100% accurate, there might be some songs I like better than others that I listed the other way around, anyway, this is just my opinion about Genesis, my favorite band.

There can only be one list.... Selling England by the Pound. (The best Symphonic prog album EVER!) Foxtrot. Nursery Cryme. Trespass / Wind & Wuthering / The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (All very close...) The rest is a crock......Not fit to lick the arse crack of the six listed above... After Wind & Wuthering the rest are not even prog!!!

I cant do this properly .. I think Selling England is my favourite - but somedays it can be Lamb. All the rest up to Trick of the tail are pretty much even to me depending on mood again. the last three would be trick of the tail and then there were three wind and wuthering in that order. the rest - I personally cant find anything to like at all so they all tie for last.

Not totally surprising I suppose . The top two are my top two as well. The low ranking albums are mostly the pop based albums including the debut. Duke is the last link with their early classic albums before the 'pop era'.

1. Foxtrot - Quality at its most English.
2. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - A varied onslaught of radical ideas saved until the end as Gabriel's opus.
3. A Trick of the Tail - A phoenix reborn. Sing on, oh drumming wonder, sing on!
4. Selling England By the Pound - Pretty but staid. Still, wonderful Gabriel vocals.
6. Nursery Cryme - Fine ensemble playing with the two new guys.
7. Genesis Live - A fine representation of the band live.
8. Wind and Wuthering - Great melodies in the shadow of dissension and despair.
9. And Then There Were Three - Sullen prog in attempting to cover for the departed.
10. Duke - Fondly known across the frozen tundra as "Puke."
Not exactly answering the notion of the thread, but it kept me from work for awhile.

I listen to Trespass more often than The Lamb (I just did yesterday): it's painful to listen to the whole double album. Yes, the production is weak and there's still not much maturity in their composition, but there are some great moments on that one.

To me, Trespass is the "missing" Genesis album. There's a great leap forward from GtR but they're still searching for a sound. It's an album I don't return to very often, but when I do I find it relaxing but subdued....maybe due to the shyte recording. In general, all the early Gensis albums suffer from poor production.
I find it well below the Lamb but still listenable.....though I dig Ant Phillips, I see why they needed to bring in Steve. More powerful playing, more nuanced, more technical.
