Hello, I live in the Uk and have been a fan of what, over 20 years, i've come to know as Prog. I'm currently interested in finding the best of Prog Metal - but not Dream Theater. Not going to disrespect them, but having heard them though a Rush fanzine from when they released their second album I've never gotten into their music - nor their various side projects (even featuring the immortal Tony Levin). Currently I'm checking out Symphony X (and Stratovarius, though i gather they aren't considered prog here, i still think they are decent if a bit cheesy). I don't like 'vomit' vocals or the death metal growls. Djent hasn't really impressed me (most djent has growly vocals as well). That's my personal preference - there are a lot of otherwise decent bands, but i can't get on with that kind of singing. Thanks!
I should add I currently like other prog bands such as Rush, Yes, some Genesis, King Crimson, Ozric Tentacles, STeve Hillage, Floyd, probably others.
