Big fan of both but had to vote for Rush. Genesis loses credibility for me because of a lot of their post seventies stuff which incidentally I still like but not as much as the post seventies stuff by Rush or YES.

Both are fantastic bands, but I'd postulate that Genesis is (was?) considerably "proggier" from the genre purist's point of view. I have been listening to both Genesis and Rush since the 1970s, so I made up my mind long ago: Genesis is archetypal, thoroughbred "symphonic prog", while Rush is "hard rock/heavy metal with an extra layer of sophistication", which, I guess, makes them "progressive metal". Thus the word "prog" functions as a noun in Genesis and an adjective in Rush.

I guess you're saying the 'proggier' a band is the better the music is? That doesn't make sense to me, but then again I never saw prog as a stamp of quality. I take it you prefer Henry Cow over Genesis then?

It's the trick question bit that inspires apparently near off topic improvisational discourse. What does "proggier" mean, I wonder.

Don't see why this is funny to you? Uni, clearly has an opinion and you can't take that away or ridicule him for that

GENESIS. But Rush is a great band and I like their music. I choose Genesis easily but I afraid this poll affect to other guys opinions. And one important thing : We are here to talk about music and our opinions about music NOT talk about other members. Unfortunately some guys attack to opposite opinions without musical reasons and they make a personal discussion. Please guys don't judge others that have opposite opinions!!

I once read a joke about that LOL thing. The mom was texting her daughter that her aunt (or whomever) had died, and then writes her "LOL", wantig to mean "Lot's of Love".

And WTF means welcome to Facebook. But there are two issues with the remarks concerning Rush and Genesis. One is an opinion - he hates Genesis. But saying one is "better" than the other is a judgment not an opinion. Like and dislike is one thing, anyone and everyone does this, but a statement of competence (how is one better than the other) can be challenged. I know within the bounds of normal bog standard communication (like between Sex Pistols fans) then any old rubbish gets passed off as "understood". But progarchives IMHO is "better" though ... more likeable? The two means of expression often get confused. The first is a belief and is no more or less than that, the other could be actionable. e.g. Imagine if someone were to compare you to another person. I don't like you, Joe is much better than you... does this mean Joe is more likeable; is that what is really meant? Or better at doing the job? Just because some one is likeable does not make them better just... likeable to someone.

Both, but my head does not hurt. shouldn't have put the both option, choosing between these two would be difficult for lots of people
