It's good to know such a mix of people are on these forums; what a fantastic community overall! By far one of the best, strongest, most long-standing communities of its kind. This thread is amazing, as well.

I think we're going to play some serious MTG this morning before lunch. I need to try out my new "killer bees" deck to see how it holds up! I'll definitely keep you guys posted on that.

For now, let's have some fun:

1. What's your current favorite card(s) to play?

2. What's your rarest/most valuable card (even if you've already sold it/traded it for something else?)

3. How often do you typically play Magic in any given week?
hunches are nice unless they're literal

1) In EDH, I think I'm having the best time ever when I combo off with Havoc Festival and Wound Reflection. Someone always has an Acidic Slime, so it's rare, but that's also what makes it more rewarding :3

2) My most valuable card is probably Cryptic Command, but I also have Snapcasters, a Griselbrand, and a foil Obzedat.

3) Depends. Usually 2-3 times, but maybe if I'm on break it will be daily.

^EDH is one mode of play that's been intriguing me as of late. I've read up on it and it seems like a fun time. I really want to test out my killer bees deck at FNM this week, though.

Gearing up to play some serious MTG this afternoon; hoping to snag a booster pack or two, as well.

Do you guys find yourself playing mostly on weekends, too?

Also, what are everyone's thoughts on the new Khans of Tarkir set coming September 26? I've seen some spoilers, but I'm still such a noob, I can't fully appreciate the expansion lol.

I used to play mostly during the week in college: there's a lot of card/board game geeks in Computer Engineering (including me) LOL
Now I've been only playing on weekends a few games on Steam or with my brother.

By the way, anyone here has MTG 13 or 14 on Steam?

I don't play online unfortunately. Many friends keep suggesting it, though.

It's the little things in life...Wink

With two blocks every year it certainly will be harder for a casual gamer to keep up with the newer cards Ermm
I have to agree with the three set blocks and the core sets though.
I just hope for a Return to Kamigawa block Big smile

I used to play everyday, but now its more sporadic.

Yeah, I'm kind of ambivalent to the whole thing to be honest with you. I haven't experienced a traditional rotation to begin with, so I guess I did really get into MTG at an exciting/annoying time.

The lack of core sets kind of irks me, because I've already always been fond of the cards that come in said sets. The expansions are just that - expansions of a core set, right? So is this just going to be like random off-sets happening twice a year with little consistency or "core" to them?

Please excuse my over-simplified questions, as I'm still somewhat of a MTG noob LOL.

They have a theme and core, core sets are just the foundation for generic MtG play. I typically avoid getting Core Sets honestly, though M15 seemed ok.

The expansion sets are more interesting cards and are constantly evolving.

I think I was under the impression that without the core set, we're at the mercy of whatever combo-advantages WotC decides to put out for the year. "Here's a set that forces you to play R/U / B/W combinations, or you can't even make use of these cards!", lol. The Khans of Tarkir set looks very combo-dependent; that's one thing I never liked, even as a newer player. I like being able to switch out single cards and try our new combos on my own.

I was just reading on MTG Salvation that Theros block was apparently hated for a variety of reasons. Hopefully they don't constrict gameplay TOO much in a similar fashion. I'm still so new, I could very well just be blinded by assumption at this point though, lol.

Theros was great - there's always going to be haters.

Rotations and themes are something that I never think about: I always played with my friends with no card restrictions, so we could build the craziest decks with so many different strategies. My cards go from Ice Age to Journey into Nyx. Tongue
