Much agreed, and I also love the track before it, Packard Goose This is my top 5 in no particular order Hots Rats Waka/Jawaka Apostrophe One Size Fits All Joe's Garage Hot Rats would probably be my favorite, though it often rotates between that one and Waka/Jawaka. I love the instrumentals on these albums. Easily some of his best. |

Great list! Hot Rats, and particularly Waka/Jawaka are my favorite pre-OSFA Zappa records. There's that late 60's/early 70's vibe throughout both, and the production just reeks of nostalgia. I've always likened the aesthetic of both records to those hard candies your grandmother would leave out for visitors; something so quant yet noisy and chaotic, lol. That's Zappa for you!

1. Hot Rats
2. Grand Wazoo 3. One Size Fits All 4. Uncle Meat I'm biased towards the harder fusion stuff with not as much silliness.

Thingfish.
That's a really tough question. My first one was Bongo Fury, but the better live album is The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. Maybe Sheik Yerbouti. |

Hard question. I guess it's between One Size, Waka/Djakarta, Grand Kazoo, Uncle Beef and Warm Mice.
Nope...I have no idea.

Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar (full three record set). To a guitarist like myself it's a sort of indulgence that I feel like I sometimes deserve. Zappa is right up there next to Hackett for me. I get fascinated by the irregular note durations and the unpredictable accenting of notes. I love the rock fugue structuring and interplay. And then there's the bouzouki and baritone violin improv at the end. Where else do you get that?
