10cc were a proficient little group of musicians who sounded good, penned clever lyrics, and could bring out a chuckle on repeated listenings. ELO, although very talented, were mired in the '70s with their "orchestra" gimmick and too busy, wall-to-wall sound that eventually grew tiresome (refreshing though was the use of Livin' Thing at the end of the film Boogie Nights). Thank goodness 10cc never unleashed upon the world a Don't Bring Me Down or music for the likes of Xanadu.

Nice, different poll.
Going with 10cc. I used to like ELO a great deal, then a friend lent me some CDs a few years ago and found that much of it wasn't sitting with me so well anymore. 10cc on the other hand keep getting better to my ears.

The damage that we do is just so powerfully strong we call it love

The damage that we do just goes on and on and on but not long enough.

Anyone who enjoys 10cc should check out Godley & Creme solo album called "L". It's much more experimental and weird but still excellent all the way.

Agreed, and it's their best: "Does getting into Zappa mean getting out of Zen"

Dreadlock Holiday is surely worse (one of most irritating songs ever made)?

Nothing I've heard from 10CC ever tickled my fancy (way to pop sounding) but ELO are quite fine.

Mission, So Fine and Livin' Thing are great songs. Not sure about the rest of the album though.

ELO by a mile.

Cod reggae is inexcusable. Legit reggae is bad enough...

Livin' Thing is my fave ELO song too.

Did you see the Jeff Lynn documentary on BBC4 on Friday followed by a recent Hyde Park concert?

Missed it although I could probably still get it via Sky's On Demand service. Thanks for the heads up.

Reggae isn't my beach, on the other hand there are about 20 ELO songs that I like though knowing I guess only half of their albums so far. But Xanadu with Olivia Newton John is a much better version for me, it still brings me very good feelings.

10cc is not a reagge band Confused, they have probably one pastiche "reagge" parody song, most if it is theater and flimsy musical pieces.
