Dysrhythmia ClapClapClap

Their new album "Barriers and Passages" blew me away!  I imagine this band fits into either prog-metal or RIO/Experimental.  Imagine Don Caballero with a more metallic edge, and gone a bit mental.  Or perhaps Ephel Duath or DEP sans vocals, so they could focus more on instrumentation.  Dysrhythmia take instrumental rock to a new level with this record.  Every instrument has virtuosity without being "shreddy" or self-indulgent.  Songs change direction without notice, and the time signatures are all over the map.  This is very original and very interesting stuff.  I first heard them on a sampler from Relapse records (home of Mastodon and other metal giants), and I got their first album "Pretest", which is also very good.  I saw this CD at the store today and gave it a try... and it rocked.

This is highly recommended to anyone who has a taste for harder-edged, often aharmonic experimental, or math-rock.

Seriously, people, I wouldn't lead you astray.

Meantime, let me also throw a shoutout for this album:

Russian Circles - Enter

Heavy post-rock on the order of Red Sparowes.  These guys move seamlessly from heavy, atmospheric metal to a brilliant instrumental post rock.  Tasty indeed!

As for Dysrhythmia, I agree with your recommendation Thumbs Up

As for Russian Circles, since you mention Red Sparowes as reference (an excellent band as well), I will seek them out.

Thanks

I find Dysrhythmia a bit boring... they're definitely impressive techincally though.  I'm intrigued by this Russian Circles band though.
