I'm watching it now - and they rule! Has anyone else seen it on MTV (or in person)?

The remarkable thing about this show: They played the whole album Master of Puppets (It was recorded 20 years ago).

Cool

hmmm... maybe even the band themselves are yearning for the glory of the old days when they didnt suck quite so much Tongue

MoP was brilliant, why did they have to have a 15 year suck period?

This statement doesn't apply for all progressing metal, but I could have easily imagined my musical life without any Metallica albums.

Is this the show that is in Estonia?

Hmm ... actually I only think that ReLoad and St. Anger suck, and Load was just not a *Metallica* album. And even ReLoad has some good songs ... Fuel is great, and they played it at the show.

Set List:

Creeping Death
Fuel
Wherever I May Roam
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Fade to Black

(Short Pause)

Battery
Master of Puppets
The Thing that Should Not Be
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Disposable Heros
Leper Messiah
Orion
Damage Inc.

(Pause)

Sad But True
Nothing Else Matters
One
Enter Sandman

Encore:

Last Caress
Seek & Destroy

Don't be so sure ... there's no way to tell how the metal universe would look like (or sound) without the first 4 Metallica albums. Or the prog metal universe, for that matter.

BTW: I'm talking about the show in Germany yesterday ... I don't know if they'll play Master of Puppets in its entirety on all shows this year.

Oh, I see. I just remember seeing a poster in my city saying that Metallica's concert in Estonia will be their only one this year. And yesterday I heard an announcement claiming that Pink Floyd would play here in the end of June. LOL Such naive people!

And by the way, I meant that my ears could have gone without Metallica's music - any album or even track - yet I recognise their importance and the fact that even atmospheric/avant Metal stars started out by trying to imitate Hammet's style.

Interesting set - they left out EVERYTHING from after the Black Album apart from "Fuel".

Just goes to show it's not just the audience that thinks Metallica have sucked for 15 years

The Black album is really nice, and even Load roated frequently in my player. Garage disc 1 was great too ... but from Load on they became sort of a "Thrashy Blues band with apparent alcohol problems" ... they should have taken the video for "Whiskey in the Jar" seriously.Wink

Nice setlist.  Suppose that means they've disowned "St. Anger"?

Recently Ulrich admitted in an interview that the album might have not been that good ... surely they know that it sucked, but won't say it aloud of course.

I've recently seen the documentary about the band around the St. Anger sessions and the album definitely was good for the group spirit... musically seen I would say otherwise though... LOL

I don't quite know why, but every live recording I've ever heard of them has sucked - compared to seeing them "in the flesh", in which environment they, er, kick ass like mofos, as the phrase goes...

Wow... what a setlist! Thumbs Up Including one of my all-time favourite Metallica songs, "Disposable Heroes" from MoP... I think they're playing one of those big open-air festivals in Italy this summer, probably in two weeks' time.
