I just bought this and am thoroughly enjoying it. If you like Kino then there are definite similarities.

I bought it because I like John Mitchell. What little I knew about It Bites I didn't much care for; however, given how much I like both Kino and Frost*, I found it to be worth the risk. Now, I find it to be worth the money.

Listening to it now. It takes the elements of all parties involved.

If something stands out during any track and reminds you of old IB or Kino then thats because the signature sound of that person is coming through. But given Mr Mitchell is a fan of Mr Dunnery then theres no surprise that Mr D's spirit lives on in Tall Ships.

But it is a great Album and I would recommend it because it is just that. No need for labels when the quality is there.

You need a 4th Option "Buy Tall Ships because its a good album".

I have not voted above.

I really didn't care for my 3rd option anyway because it opened the door to negativity; so, I altered it. Good suggestion.

I used to be huge fan of Mitchell (Arena, Kino, Frost*, The Urbane) but now I like very much old It Bites as well, thought it took me some tim to fully appreciate them. Once around the World is one of the greatest track I've ever heard. Francis Dunnery is extremely talented and original musician and John Beck is great keyboardist, perfect complement to Mitchell (previously to Dunnery).

I'm now on my second listen. It's a real return to form for the band. Just listen to the first two tracks and you know It Bites is back. John Mitchell is a great replacement for Francis Dunnery. His voice is similar to Francis' and his guitar workouts are in a similar style. The CD is a nice mixture between pop-rock songs and more progressive material. Once Around the World is still my favorite IB CD but Tall Ships isn't that far behind. At the moment I'd rate it higer than Meet Me in St Louis and their debut album.

Good to know.  I will have to track this down, being a fan of both It Bites and all of the aforementioned John Mitchell bands.

It'll be my next purchase, as I am an It Bites fan, and I'm ver curious to hear what John Mitchell sounds like with them. Frank Dunnery was an amazing guitarist; a technically amazing guitarist. He will be a very tough act to follow..

I'm looking forward to hearing this album very much.

It's one of those discs that will be hard not to reach for frequently. An extremely enjoyable listen and I don't want to wear it out.

^^^ That's what I felt about 'Once around the world' I played that album to death, back in the day, and had to leave it ten years or so, before I could face it again! I saw them live about 5 times. One of the best live bands I ever saw.
