advise please

Hello

I'm planning to write a book about progressive rock.  My intention is that it will give equal coverage to all the sub-genres listed on the PA site and so will not just be about the 60s/70s bands with a final bit about the recent years - it will cover everything more broadly. 
I don't want it to focus on the albums exclusively, and I don't want it to just be a series of potted mini-biogs on 200 or so bands (though those may be included as an appendix).

I'm still at the planning stage at the moment, nothing's been written yet.  Also, I have very little knowledge of prog, so will have to research a lot (which is essential for book writing anyway, of course)

So my question to you is - what would you like me to include in the book?

Equal coverage to all the sub-genres? With very little knowledge of prog?

Well, I guess this book will be a way to increase his knowledge?
Especially if all that research is done.

My only advice is do lots of research, internet (PA, wiki, etc) and listening to the actual music.
I think it'd be good to hit on the roots of prog, like psych rock, zappa, etc
Start with the definitive album ITCotCK, and as you said go decade by decade.
Find the "big" bands of the times, new trends, influences, changes in music etc  also try to find some good but lesser known bands, can't have all big names.
