Podolski scored the first goal from an offside. Also, there wasn't an offside when Smolarek scored in the second half!

Yay, we won yesterday!

Sort of...

Anyway, great football night for Poles, two goals scored by a Pole, whereas the Germans didn't score any Wink

Pity the Brazilian fella with a Polish passport didn't score any either, imagine my ramblings here if he had!

Podolski wasn't offside, allthough it may have seemed so at first sight. The rule may not be fair, but that's how it is.
But Smolarek WAS offside, by a very small inch.
My sympathies for the polish team that fought hard. I hope they'll win the next matches.
By the way Netherland rules !!! Great first half. Best match so far !!!

Hurrah! I'm extremely proud of our lads! StarStarStarStarStar

(For those who do not know, to avoid confusion: even though I live in a wonderful country called Belgium, I'm from The Netherlands).

I didn't expect this to happen, to be honest, but what a great night I had! This is beyond my imagination, really. Next morning I wake up, and I must squeeze my arm.

Wooow!! A 3-0 victory over world champions Italy!!! And with great footbal. The Azurri didn't know what hit them in the first half! The second goal was the best goal I saw in a long time!!! Play like that is what makes footbal worth looking at...

I won the pool we made, I was one of the last to choose and as 2-0 and 3-1 were already occupied so 3-0 it became.

great play, of course the first goal was off-side, but where was the italian offensive. lazy, poor and basically inept. great play by Van Bronkhorst man of the match if you'd ask me (saved from the line, pushing the out-break that resulted in the second goal and finally scoring a goal aswel, great player)

I watched a geat match, sorry for the itallinas on board, but you weren't good enough today.

No, it wasn't. One of the Italian defenders was behind the back line, and therefore removed the "off side" of Van Nistelrooij... check the rules...great refereeing of the linesman and referee...

Yes Soul Dreamer, article 11.4.1. of the refereeing  states that if a player leaves the field and doesn't inmediately returns, he must be considered inside the field:

Quote

11.11 DEFENDER LEGALLY OFF THE FIELD OF PLAY

A defender who leaves the field during the course of play and does not immediately return must still be considered in determining where the second to last defender is for the purpose of judging which attackers are in an offside position.

Such a defender is considered to be on the touch line or goal line closest to his off-field position. A defender who leaves the field with the referee's permission (and who thus requires the referee's permission to return) is not included in determining offside position.

Note: this is the USA version of the refereeing code, so the number is 11.11 instead of 11.4.1

But even more, Panucci was not outside the field because a rival pushed him, he was outside the field because Buffon pushed him, so Van Nistelrooij shouldn't be affected by an act not caused by him or his team.

It's a perfect goal

Excellent game by Holand, the midfield worked incredibly destroying any Italian effort.

Iván

As usual , the Azzuri can't do anything without unbelievable drama. Getting clobbered in the opening match is the Italian way to light a fire under their butts. The Dutch on the other hand, played a perfect game, offensively and defensively , everyone on the same page (a rather rare event for this side).Without a doubt , the big surprise! Hey, les Bleus! What was that disgraceful performance? Underpaid, are you? The exact opposite of the Dutch-Italy game, the French didn't RUN. My dad once said that in ice hockey, the greatest attribute is skating. Well in football, its RUNNING. I guess it was too hot in the stadium for too much exertion.

Aight, Spain - Russia is on right about now. I'm thumbs up for Russia here, then the next game, I have faith in Sweden against Greece. Let's see how it goes.

It doesn't look good for Russia...

Indeed. Villa has his hat-trick whilst Torres is rested for the next game.

Russia looked dangerous early on but they never managed to shackle Torres and Villa.

Looks like the Dutch and the Spaniards have a burr in their trunks! The others better wake up because offense is plowing defense early on. The truth is it will tighten up but as an unbiased fan, let the goals fly into the "old onion bag"!
