My first albums, if I remember all those many years ago, were:

Electric Light Orchestra - Electric Light Orchestra (the album with Roll
Over Beethoven)

Ian Hunter - Ian Hunter (the album with Once Bitten Twice Shy)

Sparks - Kimono My House

Yes - Fragile

And with the exception of the ELO album (which I quickly grew tired of), I
still like them all.

I thought this was a good thread...brought back those memories of discovering Heep and how excited I was...och those were tremendous summer days.. you can tell by peoples first tastes possibly their ages as some started of with rock and prog  the older people started with pop from the 60's  some of them will be nearly sixty themselves...Viva la prog!

You know I honestly can't remember my very first record purchase (I'm still a relatively young man of 18 years! )

I remember having a cassette of "A Hard Day's Night" when about 8 or 9. My first ever Prog album was probably Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds", which I received for Christmas one time when I was about 13. I can remember though, when music became a really big thing for me, and that started with The Moody Blues' "Days of Future Passed". Ahh I bought all of the Core 7 albums. I am now totally unstoppable when it comes to buying records!! ARRGH!

Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

SmileWithin months of each other: The Archies - Sugar Sugar (45); Creedence Clearwater Revival - Travelin' Band (45), Simon & Garfunkel - The Sounds of Silence (LP -- "I Am a Rock" still resonates!); Lighthouse - One Fine Morning (LP).

Then came Cooper, Purple, Zep, Rainbow, etc.

First pseudo-prog purchase: Uriah Heep - the Magician's Birthday.

First unequivocal prog purchase: I think it was Genesis - The Lamb.

(Before that, my 3-years-older sister & her collection introduced me to the wonders of Yes, Tull, Genesis, ELP, etc.)

Many moons ago....
