Glastonbury 2025

I've made it a habit to open a thread on Glastonbury; I tend to watch quite a bit of it on BBC IPlayer using NordVPN - unfortunately chances are you'll have to pay for something like this outside the UK to watch it, but they have put a good number of single tracks from the sets on youtube.

Unfortunately I have less time for it this year, and we know that there are just a few diamonds in a sea of mediocrity, although the general mood and atmosphere and good quality of the sound and filming makes some of the mediocrity pretty enjoyable.

Anyway, I'm not sure I get myself to do more this year than celebrating the confidence with which Black Country, New Road went against the stream (I haven't seen Geordie Greep's set coming up on BBC yet, he may swim together with BCNR) and proudly presented a set that would've made a 1973 crowd of Genesis fans happy, with probably more chords in every single track than most bands in their whole set, spiced by a very healthy feminine impact.

Wonderful! I'm a Numan fan (mostly the classic albums). I very much loved that Black Country, New Road performance. My oldest child who is 21 became a fan of that band. Of course I love Beth Gibbons, and "Floating on a Moment" for which I share a video, has been one of my very favourite songs.

Unfortunately Geordie Greep's set wasn't even filmed by the BBC (too early apparently) - I'm gutted.

Finally I have found a really really good set by an artist I hadn't been aware of before, Anohni and the Johnsons. Not for those who come to Glastonbury to have a happy party in the sun though. The music is in perfect symbiosis with the sad and hopeless message about how we destroy our planet. Very sophisticated songs and arrangements at that. Highly recommended.

(This one is one of their happiest.)

The Macabees were pretty good, I thought, with Florence Welch as an inspired guest artist.
I really wanted to see Skerryvore but apparently the BBC didn't film anyone on the Acoustic stage,

Thanks. I actually found it later on my own so must hacve been an initial ''manlook'' I think it's a good set. they could almost be a modern version of 'Canterbury scene' although not as heavy. Fun to watch (but would have preferred it without the politics )
