I don't like Kiss very much, but I wouldn't describe them as pathetic, overrated yes, but stil a decent band, all that paraphernalia that surrounds them is stupid, but that's not their music, that's what most people wants.
Fletwood Mac??? If I had to mention the best Pop bans it would easily be Fleetwood Mac, excellent vocals by Stevie Nicks, very good guitar by Buckingham, soloid drumming (ecven when too simple) by Mick Fleetwood and good music overall.
My vote goes for any boys/girl bands, they don't play an instrument, create a single notte, care about what they sing, just look good and worry about their accounts, this is prostitution of art, nothing more, and that's pathetic from my point of view.

ELP Baby!
Just kidding. I love ELP. I'm suprised I'm the first to say that!
Most pathetic band ever has got to be............
Ok, there are a lot of pathetic bands, so many I would take forever to list. So lets just leave it at that.

Ok this may be the wrong thread ... but I saw this unbelievably dumb show on MTV called Meet The Barkers ... and I was looking at the guy's mansion (he's the drummer for Blink 182) ... and then I remembered the luxury of the stars that we see on MTV cribs
And I thought it was really pathetic that these people are so rich with relavtively bad music from just a handful of albums, whereas there are many proggers who played outstanding music and had to endure a life of poverty ... I'm not talking about the really big names of ELP and Yes, but equally talented musicians in smaller bands (not much) ... apparently both Vincent Crane of Atomic Rooster (who committed suicide) and Steve Upton of Wishbone Ash (struggling as a waiter) ... were hard-up for cash ...
I don't like that at all ...

Totally agree, Trotsky. Such is the world we live in - marketing is the key, not content. It is also annoying when members of this site come down hard on bands that try to reap a few seeds from the music industry. It's catch 22: gotta be commerical to make money, gotta be poor to make good music.

I agree, it's a travesty (I almost said Travisty - as in Travis Barker... I'll get my coat).
But yes, there are so many great musicians out there who are having to
earn a living doing menial jobs, even David Jackson had to go back to
work in the 1970s and how good a saxophone player and flautist is he?
There are many musicians that are not even well known who are amazing
musicians and have to play the local circuit and get little recognition
for it.
Where I live, there is a ska/punk/pop band that has been signed and
they have all moved to London and are supposed to be recording material
and suchlike, the singer/guitarist and the lead guitarist are friends
of mine and are cool guys, but I do not feel any reason why they have
got where they have. The lead guitarist is good mind you, but maybe
lost in that kind of band..., maybe I'm biased because I don't like
ska/punk/pop...
Another band I know, who are far more talented as a whole and produce
great instrumental progressive type music, aren't getting signed, but
they do have a good fan base I believe.
It's a shame talent and ingenuity cannot be used instead of what people
feel will be popular and sell well too the teenage market.
Is there any hope?

I definitely agree with you there Ivan. Fleetwood Mac (no matter
what lineup) still made great music whether it be pop, blues,
etc... They are far from pathetic.

Simple Plan
Maroon5
Good Charlotte
Limp Bizkit
Blink 182
basically every emo/scene band out there (stop whining about how your life sucks... and get that all that makeup off your face)
basically every rapper out there (your phat rhymes don't impress me, dawg)
ooooomg, disgusting

Not pathetic, just not my thing and Stevie Nicks is really quite
annoying and I can never forgive Mick Fleetwood for that awards show
(The Brits I think) he did with Samantha Fox... dreadful.
Apart from that (oh and Lindsay Buckingham, he annoys me too), all is
fine with Fleetwood Mac. The Chain isn't all that bad in
retrospect..., I think it was because part of it was used for the
Formula One theme music for years...

DAMN, how the hell were Styx mentioned in this thread... MORE THAN ONCE?
Do I call it prog? Yes. Do I call it theatrical, over the top, bombastic? Yes. Do I call it brilliant? Yes!!!!
One of my favorite bands ever... so underrated around these parts that it's scary.

Must say I love every era of Fleetwood Mac: the blues years, the early
seventies proggish stuff ("Future Games" and "Bare Trees" are stunning
albums that very many forum members would adore) and the later pop/
rock LPs. But I do agree they're a band where you have to separate the
music from the people, at least in the case of Lindsey Buckingham and
Stevie Nicks. They may be a brilliant guitarist/writer and an accomplished
singer/songwriter respectively, but their behaviour onstage (try watching
the "Mirage Tour" video for confirmation) is toe-curlingly embarrassing.

Phil Collins, need I say more? Mike and the Mechanics (I know I know, they're a good band, not pathetic, but I just don't like it) Post Peter Green Fleetwood Mac (except the stuff with Danny Kirwan on). Iron Maiden (I really don't like them, sorry - seeing that clip of them at Ozzfest really put me off once and for all) Status Quo (except "Pictures of Matchstick Men", that's not bad) U2 - bland bland bland Simply Red (Mick Hucknall, good music taste, but his voice...)
Green Day, Finch (they're first album anyhow, emotastic), Blink 182, Limp Bizkit (what is that all about?), Eminem, 50 Cent, Nelly... and everybodies favourites: Shania Twain, Celine Dion and that woman who shall remain nameless, because she's that bad!

Fair enough if you don't like U2, but no way can you say they are "bland". Westlife singles are bland, U2 have made some of the finest rock singles of the past few years (e.g Vertigo).
I'd also like to say I like Stevie Nicks (and her singing).

U2 would get my vote - you really need to see Bill Bailey's demolition job on them in the Part Troll DVD.
Travis always sound like they release half finished songs to me.
Oasis - don't get me started on Oasis. I thought Take That were more honest - 5 lads from oop North, including an ugly one who wrote all the songs, but at least they didn't recycle old Beatles hits and claim to be creative.
Jamie Cullum's success also baffles me - the Jamie Oliver of the contemporary music scene. Yes, he's got some talent, but be honest - would you rather Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay cooked your dinner? I rest my case.

The Pussy Cat Dolls. "Don Cha" is the worst pop hit ever.

Do you know a band which is really sad and pathetic in the way that, either their music suck and they think its great, or that they have done so many mistakes in their carrer that you cant do anything else that shake your head and say "my God..." ???
Of course there are all the comerical driven pop bands, but Im talking about musicians and/or bands that write their own stuff and so on...
For me its Kiss and Fleedwood Mac...I saw a program about Kiss last night...they have a comic book about them, their music is soooooooo stupid...and they even did a kinda Scooby Doo movie...need I say more?
And as for Fleedwood Mac, they started out as a Ok blues band...what happend? I cant think of anything positiv about their line up without Peter Green...but the worst thing...Stevie Nicks...uuuuu...how sad...
