I know these are by no means all of the Swedish groups that have ever existed. But they are by and large the most popular on PA. Which do you favour?

Also any suggestions of any more Swedish bands are perfectly welcome. If anything I would prefer to hear more of them

I'm going with Opeth, closely followed by Meshuggah.

My vote is for The Flower Kings.  Other pretty good Swedish bands of note are Beardfish and Simon Says.

From this list: The Flower Kings. Beardfish and Paatos are interesting, though...

I only know The Flower Kings, though I doubt I would enjoy any of the other Sweedish bands as much as TFK.

I think the most popular Swedish band on this site is Anglagard.

PoS by a country mile (IMO obviously)

You could also look at Cloudscape, Darkwater, Mind's Eye, Evergrey, Wolverine, Andromeda, Seventh Wonder, Dimension 34, DestyNation to name but a few.

Just glad you didn't say Scandinavia as you could easily add 40-50 more to that list. Big smile

A no-brainer for me, although Meshuggah is fairly close behind.

Three metal bands; one "soft" prog band.
Yeah, what a poll.

I like all. Actually, the first 3 in particular. I used to like TFK, but recently I lost interest in their works. PoS, Opeth and Meshuggah however, are bands that I find refreshing and are constantly putting out great albums.

Yeah, what a poll.

1. Those are the only Swedish progressive bands I know of, who cares if three are metal? they are all COMPLETELY different.
2. Flower Kings are not soft prog by any means. Look at Rumble Fish Twist and Life Will Kill You. Not remotely "soft"

Guys, the question is "who do you prefer of these bands," not "who is your favorite band from Sweden."

Anyway, I love all of these bands, but I'm going to give mine to Meshuggah because they have no votes at this point. Otherwise, I would have went with Opeth.

Pain of Salvation. I hope 'Scarsick' was just a little bump in their long and successful road.

probably the Flower Kings, but Opeth has something the Flower Kings don't have: masterpieces!

Wait, did you get that backwards? Wink What does Opeth have that would classify as masterpieces over The Truth Will Set You Free, Devil's Playground, Stardust We Are, I Am the Sun... The closest thing to a masterpiece I've heard from Opeth is the title track of Blackwater Park or maybe Ghost of Perdition. Confused

Voted for FK, btw.
