Hello all,

I haven't been around for a while. How are you all travelling in the COVID-19 world?

I present a couple of radio shows on 107.3 HFM in Perth, Western Australia. Twice in every 10 weeks of shows I present episodes that feature only female vocalists as the lead vocals of the songs aired. There can be male backing vocals; however, no male lead vocals, male duet vocals, or prominent male "dirty vocals" (which excludes the like of Lacuna Coil from these specific episodes).

One of my weekly features is an epic tune. My definition of an epic tune is one that is 15 minutes +. These can be an individual song, or a number of songs or suite of songs that have a natural segue from one to the next. That said, because it is radio in a city, I also like to keep the tracks/series of tracks under 30 minutes; a requirement to satisfy station identification and sponsorship commitments.

Finally, to the crux of my query: Are you able to recommend songs/combinations of songs that fit the criteria of 15-minutes to 30-minutes in length, and have a female lead vocalist? Genre is irrelevant. Prog is not a necessity (though generally preferred). I would also prefer non-screaming/non-growling vocal styles. (These things can be in the songs in moderation.)

If you have any recommendations, fire away! ...and I have already aired Renaissance's "Song of Scheherazade".

Thanks in advance.

...a tad short of the 15 minutes. The 15+ minutes is very specific. I will keep this on hold for one of my occasional "almost epic" episodes where I air two or three 14-minute tracks that just fail to make my epic definition Thumbs Up

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Trojan - by Magenta (26min). Dig into Magenta’s catalogue, they have long tracks, with vocals mainly by the beautiful Christina Booth.

Try french band Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes. Being a long trippy piece this has a lot of music but also quite a lot vocals.

Another thing that will suite perfectly is Carol Of Harvest main piece from their excellent only album.

There's also Circle Of Illusion, they have also a male vocalist here but I think it's the female that takes the spotlight, you can decide if it works for you.

I'm not a big fan of Magenta but I know this song just 15 seconds short of 15 minutes. Go to 49:30 on the video

and this I found searching for their first song Wink

Check out the album parallelograms by Linda Perhacs. Just discovered it and it’s jaw dropping. The title track is one of the scariest pieces of music I’ve ever heard but most the album is incredible prog/psychedelic folk.

In my opinion Kate Bush's "The Ninth Wave", B-side of the Hounds of Love album, should count. It's officially 7 songs, but actually it's a single story and they all belong together and make one great epic.

Living in the Heart of the Beast by Henry Cow.  Dagmar on vocals.  If you don't know this one, don't call yourself a 'prog fan'.

I'd also recommend the side-long "Sky of Honey" suite on Disc 2 of Kate Bush's Aerial album.

I would recommend Mostly Autumn but they have every few songs over 15 minutes, and Bryan Josh insists on providing some lead or duet vocals on those that are of that length! But check out some of their 8 - 12 minute songs for your non-epic broadcasts, I'd recommend Carpe Diem and The Gap Is Too Wide in particular.
