My wife should have gone to Law School. She loves to argue and is never wrong.

I am so sorry for you, must be very hard! Of all the choices out there, good grief!

And you aren't kiddin'. I get home from a long day to some knee slapping music blaring in the kitchen. My eldest son now listens to 1/4 metal, 1/4 prog, and now 1/2 country. Just when I thought he would enter the Prog world too. He was getting into Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater. Those have been on a steady decline as I checked out his Nano. It's a sad day. CMT rules the TV too. I run to the basement and listen to Last.FM for a Prog fix.
Should I be afraid I like a country video? Not the music, the video. Leann Rimes in jail or something. Maybe I should be sure to back off.

I also wonder about this frequently. Perhaps because prog is a minority? How many people listen to prog compared to other music genres? About 30 percent, maybe. 20 or 25 percent are men so that leaves us with a 5 or 10 percent of women who are into prog. They do exist but are hard to find so let us all keep looking!
Also, it depends on the subgenre for once. Neoprog can be the magnet for most women I guess, for the melodies and the voices. I don't know...

Ahhhhh, this thread reminds me of a good story...
I used to date this girl who only enjoyed country music (ugh ). Well, when I heard this, I suddenly had a purpose in life. I made it my life's mission to convert her to prog. I believe the line I said went something like, "Prog can be enjoyed by everyone because it is such a varied and eclectic genre." Yeah...something like that. I tried to ease her in with Tull or more accessible Genesis.....no response. Then, it hit me like a ton of bricks.....I'll try Voyage of the Acolyte, that has to work...man I am a genius, the chances of that not working are 0%. Nope, still nothing. To her credit though, she never came out and said she hated any of it, she was very polite about the whole thing. Soon after, the relationship started to go downhill a little bit so one day we were in the car together and without thinking about it, I pull out Gentle Giant's "In a Glass House." Here is where the fun began. So I put it on, about 20 seconds in to the glass breaking intro of "The Runaway" I see absolute pain on her face. As the song goes on, it looks as if she is being tortured in a variety of ways. Then "An Inmates Lullaby" comes on and the pain then turns into what I would describe as sheer confusion mixed with animal-like rage. Why...I don't know, it just happened. Long story short, I believe the relationship ended a few days after that. Lucky for her too, because next she would have probably had to listen to Kohntarkosz.
What was the point of this whole story....huh good question
Ohhh I know, guys, if you're in a relationship that you're desperate to get out of...just put on Gente Giant. It worked for me.

Too bad it ended so fast Kohntarkosz tied to a chair would of made youtube . How about Pavlov's Dog? Nah, you might get arrested for Assault & Battery (the Hawkwind tune!)

Don't try to figure it out. Bask in the awesome, jaw-dropping excellence of Alan Jackson's steel guitar players.

I find the best way to seduce a female is with Yes's Close to the Edge.
Of course, you have to swing it hard enough to knock her out.

The best way to seduce a woman is Klaus Schulze's "Chromengel" from his "Cyborg" album. Trust me, it is what I first seduced Jean to.

There are many girls who like Pink Floyd, Radiohead. and Dream Theater. According to this site Nightwish is progressive, this increases the number of female "prog" fans...
BTW if I was a woman I probably would feel a bit offended by calling me a "chick".

I don't mind the word "chick" as much as the allegations that women are in some way intellectually inferior to men. As I said in an earlier post, I believe that most of the differences between the genders are culturally induced, and not connected to biological factors. Being a woman, I know the kind of brainwashing women are subjected to by the media and society in general, so I'm not surprised to see that music is also part of the equation.

Yes, I thought the "chick" part of the thread title was a tad insensitive.
Anyhow, my partner likes Nightwish and before she sold much of her collection years ago, she liked Marillion. She's mostly and old-school metaller and likes Kiss and Queensryche as well.
Most of her music passes me by, to be honest, but at least it's not pop (although how Shalimar and Salt 'n' Pepper creeped into her collection, I have no idea...). She did attend a Riverside gig with me and didn't hate it either, so there's still hope.
Another female friend of mine once liked the opening track of Porcupine Tree's Deadwing (infact, she heard it before I did, as I happened to have it with me in the pub the same day I bought it). I still haven't copied it for her...
My female cousin Caroline likes noise rock, like Sunn O))) and Boris, as well a lot of other Japanese bands and her father is an old prog-fan, who listened to lots of Floyd back in the day.
The only female prog-fans I know in real-life are Rach and Vicky, who are on these very forums.
Addendum: I forgot to add that there seems to be more women in orchestras than men, plus there seems to be a lot more female fans and critics of classical music. However, there are far less female composers of classic music, which is strange.

Hmm...I am one guilty of being lured by Close to the Edge.
