4 stars Now this one was quite a surprise.

A guitarist releasing an instrumental album isn't exactly a shocking event, but one who strives to use the occasion to create music reaching outside of what is expected is. Especially when it succeeds in doing just that. Other instruments gets leading roles pretty often, with the guitar taking a more subservient role. And the guitar only gets to be the sole dominating instrument on a select few occasions.

The compositions are all excellent, some are truly brilliant, and as far as I'm concerned this is amongst the best instrumental albums made in the last decade or so. Especially the middle-east inspired pieces here are real killer efforts.

Highly recommended.
