I know what most of you are thinking, but before anyone says anything, I think Judas Priest should get a shot here. Their first 4 albums and their latest 2 albums (especially Nostradamus) have signifcant prog inclunces. So yes, their 80s and 90s material (with some exceptions from the Painkiller album) have nothing to do with prog, but these following albums do. So please hear them out! Sad Wings of Destiny (1976) Sin After Sin (1977) Stained Glass (1978) Angel of Retribution (2005) Nostradamus (2008) Edited by AmericanProgster - February 16 2009 at 10:47 |

Yeah well people need to get over their stupid biases! Prog-Metal, no! Prog-Related, yes! In my opinion, those six album I listed are all to obvious when it comes to having a relation to prog. Besides despite what people thought (and what nasty arguments came out of it) Iron Maiden and Metallica still made it on here. So that doesn't mean JP is out of the picture just yet!

I'm sure you don't mean the admin team here have stupid biases... JP have been suggested on a number of occasions, both in the open forums, and between various genre teams working for the site; a huge amount of discussion is gone through before any final decision making occurs; in JP's case, the final decision went against their inclusion. |

Nice try, AP, but there's only so many times in one life you want to argue about the same subject before opening the pointy-stick cupboard. |

Opinions disagree to a great extent in the world of prog. The site I write for most of the time acknowledge Judas Priest, Celtic Frost and even Nazareth as acts that are or have been major influences on progressive metal.
But in a place like this (i.e. open forum on most visited prog site), uttering support of such acts as proggish will yield Ikarran warriors in uncountable numbers; in an offensive defense to protect what they hold dear ;-) Edited by Windhawk - February 16 2009 at 12:06 |

It probably wouldn't hurt to bring them up again somewhere down the line, but we just got through voting on them, so right now might be a bit soon.
I'd like to reccomend that instead of listing whole albums why don't you isolate the proggy tracks, it would be big help for those of us who don't have time to listen to seven or so Priest albums in their entirety. For instance, if I wanted to discuss Hendrix's proggieness I would recommend the tracks, Burning the Midnight Oil, Waterfalls, Driftin, 1984 A Merman etc., rather than whole albums. Right now I think it is too soon to push Priest again, but if you guys get organized and pick out the proggiest tracks then maybe we can give this another look somewhere down the road. Two things don't help though, calling us stupid and close-minded, and comparing Priest to bands that are already here. Priest will have to stand on their own, not as Metallica's little brother. If you need help in isolating the proggiest tracks, I'll be glad to do so. I am a big fan of early JP, and in particular Sad Wings of Destiny would deserve serious consideration - especially if there was an 'album only' category as suggested by some Collabs.
I'd like to throw my own two cents in: it's not the Admins who are close-minded, but rather the general membership. Having been Admin myself for some time, I know that every time a controversial act is added, the workload for the Admin Team increases tenfold. People who disagree with an addition are capable of resorting to slurs and personal attacks, forgetting that this is a music site and not a think tank dealing with the global recession, or something equally weighty and serious. Therefore, the Admin Team (who are also the 'guardians' of Prog-Related) have to think very carefully about some additions - no one likes all hell to break loose, after all. |

As has already been stated this band have been discussed ad nauseam. Not sure there is anything to be gained by pushing them forward again.
