I've been trying to order the mag to my library for over a year now. I don't know what's the problem, but we haven't gotten one issue yet. They did send us the regular CR, but we didn't ask for that.

I think the reason for that is the very strictly limited nature of the circulation numbers available. The business model appears to be that they will only print what can be sold in the shops or by subscription.

Maybe a stupid question but...I wanted to know if you can recommend the magazine or if there's something better in the press industry. If you are looking for a magazine that is uniquely dedicated to prog (and I mean a mass circulation mag, not a fanzine), that is very well produced, extremely glossy, and full of articles by journalists who clearly know their stuff, then CRPR is for you.
The downsides are it is very expensive, and I find myself these days taking less time to read it, especially the reviews - I can see better ones, and more contemporary, on this site.
All in all, though, it is still worth it. |
Thanks!

i dont miss an issue and its always a great read with some great prog on CD which for me is the main drawcard. No other mAG OUT THERE is this dedicated to Prog IMHO. Its only a small outlay per month and not much to ask if you want more on the genre.

I believe to them it should be just another subscription. But anyway, whatever the reason for the delay, we finally got it after over a year of waiting I've been browsing through the February issue yesterday and today, and the March issue came today. Looks really wonderful, I'm glad I'm finally able to read this

Ditto here.....I skipped on the KATE BUSH issue, first issue I've missed since #4. (Sorry but she's not quite Prog enough for my tastes).
Unfortunately the Reader's Poll and Critic's Poll for 2011 were in there.... Who made the lists this year ?
Gripe #2 : They have yet to do an article on either PHIDEAUX or MAUDLIN OF THE WELL !

A rip-off is if you pay for something but don't receive it. Or if you pay too much an service that was not needed. This is just an expensive magazine. The price is on the cover. you don't have to buy it.

I know what a rip-off is, you don't have to point it out - I paid for something I didn't receive when I bought this magazine, it doesn't deliver what it suggests. It's should be self-evident that you only know it's a rip-off after you've bought it, you can't know that by just looking at the price on the cover. I certainly won't buy it again.

Not being a smart-ass here, but genuinely curious as to why you feel you've been ripped off.

Despite their supposed manifesto, these are not serious magazines telling truths, they are fanzines telling fans what they want to hear, peddling wares they know will sell. I thought this one might be different - it isn't.

I've read a few and they seemed alright. Not Fanzines for sure. Not technucally and not in look.

What truth? I'm puzzled.
A magazine is a magazine - they are a slick way of selling you advertising for things you want to buy - that's why we buy magazines - to see what new things are availble for us to buy: the latest releases, the re-issues, the t-shirts and the up-coming tours and gigs - the articles and interviews have never been anything other than window-dressing (just like going on Letterman or Wossie, the artists only do that to plug their latest releases).

yeah mags are a biz, ppl need to eat........and they'll def plug u more if you advertise a lil more with 'em so long you aint total utter crap or toally unrelated to the music genre featured...... so the only way they can sell is to feature yr fav artists or the big ones over n over again to generate interest and hopefully more sales

I've missed the last three issues or so, they just haven't been delivered. Classic Rock as well hasn't come in a few months even though we've paid for both. Nice.
