I just happened to be on the All Music Guide, and Signals is the Album of the Day.  Not sure how much an honor that is, but it appears that 2007 was the 25th anniversary of this excellent album.

BTW, I'm just getting into Rush. I started with the inevitable




And I plan on working my way up (or down?) from here. Next I plan on buying "A Farewell to Kings", or whatever it's called.

You couldn't choose better than A Farewell to Kings IMO Thumbs%20Up ........and then you'll need Hemispheres.

You couldn't choose better than A Farewell to Kings IMO Thumbs%20Up ........and then you'll need Hemispheres.
 
I would agree for the most part. Rush has many different sounds. They progressed their sound, even if their writing style might have changed to something not so Progressive. But never has Rush "sold out".

In general, I like hard sound very much... That is one of the reasons why this is one of the first prog bands I tried... Very different, they are story for themselves... I think that main reason for that is Geddy Lee, fantastic band locomotive Wink ... His energy is marvelous, moving...

My favorite Rush albums are from late '80 (from "Grace under pressure" to "Roll the Bones")...

I am quite unusual in that my favourite Rush albums are NOT those from the Seventies (though of course they're all greatWink), but rather those from the Nineties, especially Counterparts. Even though many people think Rush stopped being prog with Moving Pictures, or even earlier than that, I couldn't care less - in my book,  being prog doesn't equal being good. Check my Snakes and Arrows review if you want to know more about my stance!

S&A not only has stood the test of time with me, it has become one of my favorite Rush albums. While I haven't heard if they are going back to the studio by year's end, most likely due to the new tour, I would not be at all disappointed if they chose to follow-up S&A with something along the same lines. The revisit to their roots has provided some excellent music, be it Prog or not.

I listened to Snakes And Arrows the other day and it just gets better and better. Definitely one of the best discs I bought last year.

I've never experienced a more heartfelt relief than the day I listened to the first song sample out of S&A (Far Cry) and immediately knew that this was going to be great!

Oh, and by the way, am I the only one who thinks that P/G is better than Signals, if not the best album between Moving Pictures and Counterparts? Such a tense listening experience with absolutely stunning pieces of music such as Distant Early Warning (which I've played infinite numbers of time! Tongue) and Enemy Within to mention a few.

By the way, that's the first song from Rush that I was really in love with (Distant Early Warning)... Very good choiceThumbs%20Up...
