That's fun as well. Intentional or not it don't matter to me.

Vander comes across serious as a heart attack.....

Stoah is my idea of fun. Infact their two first albums are pure joy. And how about those burps on Maahnt (The Wizard's Fight Versus the Devil)? Funniest sh*t ever.
Stoah comes across quite angry and .......serious....
Maahnt comes across as demented.......and serious.
I love these tracks to death (from heart-attack....) and love what Magma do, just my perception of Vander and his cohorts is serious focus and understanding. You have to be seriously committed to your instrument, and you have to be seriously committed to your vocal delivery/style. Maybe they themselves had a challenging sort of 'fun' element to their work, but it comes across serious to my perception. How can you perform this magnitude of complexity and starkness with a smile on your face, unless you are dead serious......??
Sure, it may be a 'fun' listen, but I seriously doubt that's their intention. I'm sure I read in a translated interview with Vander, that he stated that 'every time I hit a cymbal, means death to someone' ....(either bad translation or I'm misinterpreting the claim, or my brain is fried from years ago..... )....

You can count on my vote as a tie breaker too. I have not been able to choose, for similar reasons, so... things may get interesting...

And I also find Stoah (that over-the-top Hitler impression) and lots of other Magma music great fun. The first two Magma tracks I heard I would consider great fun ( 'Iss' Lansei Doia and Liriïk Necronomicus Kanht) and, yeah the Maahnt burps are very funny. What I alove so much about Magma is that it can be so over-the-top and then spiritual and beautiful... Great band. Another fun thing is when you mishear lyrics (doesn't matter if the fun is intentional or nor, one can bring one's own sense of fun to the proceedings). For instance, in E Re II, I mishear hear "ove supreme" lyrics as "Gotta love that knee, oh that knee". Hers a classic misheard lyrics vid:

And check out this performance of Otis (lol): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHYL1zrFwwU

That video is one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen! Even better than the misheard lyrics to Orff's "O Fortuna" (from Carmina Burana).

A little strange that I don't like Hawkwind though. Judging by their sound and aesthetics they should be right up my alley...but they're not. I still listen to Warriors once or twice a year to see if I've changed my mind.

that is odd. I would have thought as well that Hawkwind is a band you would have enjoyed.

Yep. I find it very strange actually. Every Hawkwind review I've ever read has made me think: 'Hot damn! This is an album for me! Most definitely!!' I then return to Warriors and am left completely under whelmed.
I love Motorhead thoughBig smile

Love them both? Which band featured members from both groups?

gospel-influenced stuff they do.

I love Stoah and it perfectly represents the fun side of Magma while Merci represents Christian Vander at his all time creative low (which isn't that low btw). None of them are good as starting points, though. If I was to introduce Magma through one composition and not an album I'd go for Rïah Sahïltaahk (from 1001° Centigrades
