Yup, that's what rock music is supposed to be about. That's why I could care less if the music I'm listening to is progressive. I'm a musician, so of course I love to hear some skill, but only if the band remembers to write real songs. There's no point in skill if you can't have the passion and songwriting to go with it.

This. Instrumentally brilliant, vocals great as well ´cos fits the tune perfectly. I´m not a musician, btw.
You may see a smile on Tony Banks´ face but that´s unlikely.

Seriously, how can anyone say Necromancer is better than Tom Sawyer? You guys need to get checked for longsongaphilia.

I don't love it because it's long, I love it because it's one of the best damn songs ever made. I love Tom Sawyer too, but I'd still choose Necromancer if it was only the middle part of the song.

Rush out-Sabbath's Black Sabbath on that part. Come on, you all know it's awesome.

The Necromancer is one of my all time favorite Rush songs. In fact, I like Caress of Steel more than 2112 (gasp! shock! harrumph!)

Mostly this. Necromancer isn't among my top Rush tunes but I do prefer to listen to COS than 2112.

Tom Sawyer is fantastic, but again I agree not overated but arguably over played...
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I would vote Necromancer over almost any song in existence. There's brilliance, and then there is The Necromancer.

Hmmm...not a huge Rush fan but I'll take Sawyer over Necrodancer....which has this awful narration voice in it.

Necromancer for me too, it has always been one of my favorite Rush songs and by far the best track on COS.

Not a massive fan of TS but the voice in Necromancer is a bit silly.

Necromancer.
It just sounds more "raw" than Tom Sawyer (which is awesome in its own right).
Welcome to the middle of the film.

I think "The Necromancer" is a great song, but Tom Sawyer (even super-exposed) wins this game!

I just realized that I subjectively like Tom Sawyer, but objectively dislike it's popularity. Confused  Time for me to hit up on some math rock, or KC, or Johnny Cash for Christ sakes.

I like both, but Tom Sawyer is the better of these two.

The Necromancer because of the epic little yarn it unravels (among other things).
