I was seeing the music video of these oldie -at least for me- song... and I wonder if there could be another time in which a musician or singer could gather up that amount of collaboration from the most impressive singers of that time... I mean... M. Jackson, Cindy Lauper, Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Steve Perry, Springsteen, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Tina Turner and I don't remember the rest, but they were the best of the best at that moment... I wonder how could it might be, an utopic collaboration these days...??? who will be involved, I guess that Bono... but who else...??? Britney? Aguilera? Iglesias? Usher? Eminem? Jonas Brothers...?? you know... there will be such a talent than in We Are the World...??? What do you think about it...??? Of course, leaving at the side the motivation of an utopic reunion... but, could they gather up such talent like that song...???

There were several such collaborations at that time.

The funniest was the hair metal collaboration Hear'n Aid.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

I do, it was either "Stars" or "We Are Stars".

Yes, there were different kinds of projects, like the Starvation project with UB 40, the francophone "Tamtam pour l'Ethiopie" and of course the British "Band Aid" with Paul Young, Bananarama, Sting, George Michael, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, some guys from U2, Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet...

Yes, it's hard to picture it today.

Thank God Helloween was never popular enough to be stuffed in there. That would have ruined my life

Well, there's this (lame and boneless) cover of Midnight Oil's "Beds Are Burning" by a bunch of big sellers...
Makes me want to help the global warming.

Robert Reed from Magenta (or maybe it was Alan Reed from Pallas.  I forget) put together a bunch of proggers to produce a song to raise money for Tsunami victims.  I was trying to find a link on the internet or the album here on PA, but I couldn't find it.  I have it at home however, so if no one remembers what I am talking about before I get home I will post that info here.

Nice video. Didn't know it existed.

Good song, but not much of a prog song. It's still fun to watch.

You'd have to check out the 11:58 (definitive mix) for the prog version. Wink
