RoSfest is thrilled to announce that US band Discipline have been signed for the 2012 edition of the Rites of Spring Festival. 

Some
bands become legends in their own time. Due to quality of material,
lengthy tenures or timing. Being at the right place at the right time
have made just as many careers as anything else. And while Detroit,
Michigan may not have been the right place, the mid 1990's was certainly
the right time for Discipline to appear. With two top notch albums
released to an audience that didn't have too many new US prog bands to
choose between, Discipline quickly became a legendary act. Perhaps more
in the US than internationally, but they are a revered act also outside
of the US border. 

John Preston Bouda, Paul Dzendzel, Matthew
Kennedy and Matthew Parmenter have toured at home and abroad, issued
studio albums, live albums and live DVD's, have put their band on hiatus
and reformed. In 2011 they released their third studio album "To
Shatter All Accord", a disc 14 years in the making. Like their first two
albums from the 1990's this latest production has been very well
received, further cementing this band's reputation as a legendary and
highly influential act. 

2012 will mark the 4th year since
Discipline reformed and the 25th year anniversary of their formation,
and we're extremely happy that part of their celebration will be in the
company of fellow artists and progressive rock fans at the Rites Of
Spring Festival. And with an album's worth of new material to present,
even seasoned fans of this act will have a lot to look forward to when
Discipline hits the stage at ROSfest in May 2012.

RoSfest is glad to announce that UK band Sanguine Hum have been signed for the 2012 edition of the Rites of Spring Festival. 

The
opening slot on Sunday morning isn't the most visited concert at a
weekend festival. After two days with numerous hours of music, and often
partying verging on excess to boot, some people tend to sleep in on the
third day. But for the dedicated fans who does show up, for them we try
to find something special. Old hands who never got the break they
deserved, up and coming bands that have been overlooked. A band that
will surprise and delight those who do show up, talked about afterwards
to the extent that those who went for the sleep in option know they have
missed something special. We call this slot on our bill the Church of
Prog. 

Following in the footsteps of acts like Credo (2008),
Touchstone (2009), DeeExpus (2010), and Mars Hollow (2011), in 2012 we
have awarded the "prog sermon" to UK act Sanguine Hum. Sanguine who? may
be the reaction by some. Others might have come across the band members
in other constellations, as Joff Winks (vocals, guitars), Paul Mallyon
(drums), Matt Baber (keyboards) and Brad Waissman (bass) have a musical
past in bands such as Antique Seeking Nuns, Joff Winks Band and
Nunbient. Since 2009 they have been making music as Sanguine Hum
however, recording and performing music in a manner not too far removed
from bands like Porcupine Tree and Radiohead, lightly flavoured with
neo-prog, classic rock and Canterbury inspired details. So far explored
on the EP "Sanguine Hum: Plays the Nuns" from 2009 and the full length
production "Diving Bell" officially released on CD in 2011. A talented
band that should have a great future ahead of them, and one we believe
will surprise and amaze the most dedicated part of our audience at the
2012 edition of the Rites of Spring Festival.

RoSfest is exceptionally pleased to announce
that UK band IQ have been signed for the 2012 edition of the Rites of
Spring Festival. 

They have been a solid presence in the 80,
90's and noughties resurgence of interest in progressive rock, and can
document a solid interest in their music throughout a 30 year long
career. With 9 studio albums to their name, of which 6 are generally
regarded as classics. Their later productions as popular as their
earliest, if not even more so. 

The last few years have brought
it's upheavals, as noted keyboardist Martin Orford left in 2007,
drummer Andy Edwards called it quits in 2008 and Orford's successor Mark
Westworth left in 2010 alongside acknowledged bass man John Jowitt. But
Mike Holmes (guitars) is still around, as is original frontman Peter
Nicholls (vocals). And while Neil Durant (keyboards) may be an
unfamiliar name for some, Paul Cook (drums) and Tim Esau (bass) are old
hands returning to the fold. So despite line-up alterations, IQ is still
the band the fans know and love. A leading name in the progressive rock
scene, as they have been throughout most of their existence. 

When
IQ hit the stage in Gettysburg in May 2012, three years have gone by
since they last visited these shores. Three years which has seen the
return of original members, one new man in, and a band that in 2011
chose to revisit their classic "Subterranea" production live for the
first time since the late 1990's. If they will take this one across the
pond, opt to perform their most popular songs or perhaps even present
some new material we don't know. But as those who saw IQ live at 3RP in
2009 can vouch for, this will be a concert well worth experiencing. One
of the essential performances to attend at the 2012 edition of the Rites
Of Spring Festival.

band Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion have been signed for the 2012
edition of the Rites of Spring Festival. 

Following a gig in
Finland in January 2009, The Flower Kings were officially in hiatus. One
of the main vehicles of the contemporary progressive rock scene to be
parked at the wayside for an undefined amount of time. And while his
band mates headed out into their already established side and solo
projects, lead vocalist Hasse Fröberg discovered that he was in need of a
band. And, upon reflection, some compositions might come in handy too. 

Hasse
Fröberg & Musical Companion became a reality in 2009, consisting of
Fröberg (vocals, rhythm guitar), Kjell Haraldsson (keyboards), Ola
Strandberg (drums), Anton Lindsjö (guitar) and Thomsson (bass). Material
was unearthed, developed and recorded, and 2010 saw the release of
their debut album "Future Past". A CD that was generally well received,
most commonly described as a blend of 70's hard rock rock and symphonic
progressive rock. Artists such as Genesis, Yes and Queen have been
mentioned as probable influences, alongside the obligatory references to
The Flower Kings. 

At the time of writing Hasse Fröberg &
Musical Companion are holed up in a studio somewhere, assembling their
next album. They plan to release this so far unnamed CD in the first
half of 2012, and are looking forward to kickstarting the second chapter
of their band history at the 2012 edition of the Rites Of Spring
festival.

RoSfest is pleased to announce that US ensemble
The Aaron English Band have been signed for the 2012 edition of the
Rites of Spring Festival. 

Saturday morning should prove to be
an interesting one for sleepy, late night party people and early birds
alike when The Aaron English Band hits the stage on the 5th of May.
Compared to the likes of Peter Gabriel and noted for the inclusion of
world music elements on their initial production "All the Waters of This
World", while the following "The Marriage of the Sun and the Moon" had
slightly more of an Americana flavored sound. Both albums, issued in the
name of band leader Aaron English, have received ample amounts of
praise and critical acclaim over the years. 

But the story of
this band is also the story of a hard working crew of musicians who
nearly lost it all. On their fourth US tour in 2008 their tour bus was
caught up in a catastrophic accident, destroying much of their equipment
and most of their spirits to boot. Thankfully all members survived, but
further progress as a band unit ground to an immediate halt as a direct
consequence. 

With the help of grateful and appreciating fans
Aaron English was able to record the solo album "American Fever Dream" in
2010. A rather successful creation, with the song "Believe" entering the
US top 20 single charts. Following this solo production The Aaron
English Band have gradually built themselves back together, the first
concrete result of that appeared when they hit the studio to record a
long-standing live favorite: The elongated Beatles and Led Zeppelin
medley "Norwegian Wood/Kashmir". A spirited 10 minute effort which has
seen good sales on iTunes and been watched by close to 20.000 viewers on

Aaron

ROSfest are proud to announce that US quartet Resistor have been signed for the 2012 edition of the Rites Of Spring Festival. 

Everything
has to start somewhere, and often with someone. And in the case of
Resistor, US composer and musician Steve Unruh is the proverbial it. An
established solo artist with plenty of albums to his name, he is well
known for his folk-oriented, acoustic art rock. But a decade or so into
his solo career, the need for performing music with a harder hitting
sound starts to grow alongside the need to perform material with more of
an improvisational character. Enter Rob Winslow. An electronic engineer
like Unruh, the two colleagues start to jam together sometime around
2005. And a few months later another colleague joins them, namely
maintenance electrician Barry Farrands. With bass and drums covered by
Rob and Barry the jams continue, and songs are written. But something is
missing, and the missing element eventually turns out to be Fran
Turner. Another colleague and electronic engineer, providing atmospheres
with the guitar the former trio had imagined they would need a keyboard
player to provide. 

The foursome are still jamming, but
along the way there has been a good number of live concerts too. More
importantly, three full length productions have been crafted by these
colleagues and fine musicians as well. Albums covering a vast musical
canvas, from americana-inspired mellow classic rock on one hand to more
sophisticated material closing in on 70's Kansas in expression. From
acoustic dominated themes referencing Unruh's extensive back catalogue
as a solo artist to darker, harder hitting sequences closer to metal in
sound. From short and concise songs to improvised excursions and, in the
most extreme, an elaborately constructed epic tale clocking in at just
under 40 minutes. The latter a creation that should interest many on a
lyrical as well as musical level, a story named "The Land of No Groove".
A tall tale where good music, at least to some extent, allegorically
replace the holy grail as the object of quest desire. "The Secret
Island Band Jams" from 2011 is the most recent CD to be issued by
Resistor. And like their first two excursions into the universe of
recorded music, a CD that bears testimony to the quality and diversity
in the current US progressive rock scene. Everything has to start
somewhere. And one might hope that we're still hovering around the
opening era for this fine band.

RoSfest is happy to announce that UK act IO Earth has been signed for the 2012 edition of the Rites of Spring Festival. 

This
up and coming UK band made a name for themselves with their ambitious
2009 debut, a 20 track strong double album clocking in at just over 90
minutes. A CD that saw them nominated for, "best debut album", by the
Italian Progawards website and voted as, "best new/unsigned band", by
the readers of UK magazine Classic Rock Presents Prog. 

IO Earth
was initially the creative vehicle of Dave Cureton (guitars, vocals)
and Adam Gough (keyboards, guitars). Close personal friends with a
relationship going back a decade or so; both of them sharing the view
that music should be innovative and transcend boundaries. Their initial
production documents a band that enjoy an emphasis on strong melodies
and harmonic arrangements, this combined with quite a few nods in the
direction of symphonic progressive rock - liberally flavored with
details from styles such as (but not limited to) jazz, industrial, world
music and new age/ambient. 
While they started out as a creative
duo, IO Earth became a full-fledged band project following the release
of their debut album. Searching far and wide, high and low and possibly
in some alternate dimensions too, Gough and Cureton managed to establish
a unit of like-minded musical compatriots. Claire Malin (vocals),
Richard Cureton (drums), Luke Shingler (flute, saxophone) and Christian
Nokes (bass) make up the rest of this now 6 men and women strong
ensemble. They have established themselves as a strong live act
following a string of concerts in Europe and the UK promoting IO Earth's
initial production. IO Earth is currently busy assembling a new CD,
"Moments", planned for release towards the end of 2011.

Searching far and wide, high and low and possibly in some alternate dimensions too, Gough and Cureton managed to establish a unit of like-minded musical compatriots. Claire Malin (vocals), Richard Cureton (drums), Luke Shingler (flute, saxophone) and Christian Nokes (bass) make up the rest of this now 6 men and women strong ensemble. They have established themselves as a strong live act following a string of concerts in Europe and the UK promoting IO Earth's initial production. IO Earth is currently busy assembling a new CD, "Moments", planned for release towards the end of 2011. 	New announcement today: -------------- ROSfest are proud to announce that US quartet Resistor have been signed for the 2012 edition of the Rites Of Spring Festival. Everything has to start somewhere, and often with someone. And in the case of Resistor, US composer and musician Steve Unruh is the proverbial it. An established solo artist with plenty of albums to his name, he is well known for his folk-oriented, acoustic art rock. But a decade or so into his solo career, the need for performing music with a harder hitting sound starts to grow alongside the need to perform material with more of an improvisational character. Enter Rob Winslow. An electronic engineer like Unruh, the two colleagues start to jam together sometime around 2005. And a few months later another colleague joins them, namely maintenance electrician Barry Farrands. With bass and drums covered by Rob and Barry the jams continue, and songs are written. But something is missing, and the missing element eventually turns out to be Fran Turner. Another colleague and electronic engineer, providing atmospheres with the guitar the former trio had imagined they would need a keyboard player to provide. The foursome are still jamming, but along the way there has been a good number of live concerts too. More importantly, three full length productions have been crafted by these colleagues and fine musicians as well. Albums covering a vast musical canvas, from americana-inspired mellow classic rock on one hand to more sophisticated material closing in on 70's Kansas in expression. From acoustic dominated themes referencing Unruh's extensive back catalogue as a solo artist to darker, harder hitting sequences closer to metal in sound. From short and concise songs to improvised excursions and, in the most extreme, an elaborately constructed epic tale clocking in at just under 40 minutes. The latter a creation that should interest many on a lyrical as well as musical level, a story named "The Land of No Groove". A tall tale where good music, at least to some extent, allegorically replace the holy grail as the object of quest desire. "The Secret Island Band Jams" from 2011 is the most recent CD to be issued by Resistor. And like their first two excursions into the universe of recorded music, a CD that bears testimony to the quality and diversity in the current US progressive rock scene. Everything has to start somewhere.
