If I had a free choice, Gryphon, Strawbs and Renaissance would be in the top10.

I would add PFM to the list!

It all depends on how you define popular.....................VDGG were not as popular as ELP, who were a giant in prog, but didn't sell as many albums as Floyd.......is it personal choice or is it real popularity...then a different picture would show. Just asking.

Pink Floyd is easily my #1
Then Yes, Genesis, Van der Graaf Generator, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Camel, Rush, ELP
Something like that. Also of note is that I really like no more than 3 albums by each of these bands (sans Floyd), some less.

Between Genesis and Yes it's way too close. The rest of the bands I still like them a lot including some of my all-time favorite albums.

1)Jethro Tull-1970-1974 and 1977-1980. LITP is a very important cd full of gems from 1968-1971
2)Camel-Love the debut album and 1976-1981 albums
3)Gentle Giant-strong for most of the 70s
4)Genesis-I prefer 1976-1981 over the slightly weird, fairy Gabriel era. But I love foxtrot
5)Yes- Love the 1970-1974 era although I'd rather shorter songs than longer experimental ones
6)Van der graaf- H to He, Godbluff, World record, Quiet zone
7)Caravan-Grey and pink, The album, Cunning stunts, Blind dog
8)Frank Zappa-from 1972 onwards
9)King Crimson-only really lasted for half the decade, with many lineup changes
10)Emerson Lake and Palmer-were cool until about 1973
