the 80's was a VERY important decade for me: the fact that i passed from a teenager to an adult world in 1985 is partly a reason. what was your 10 most memorable hits during this decade, made of (if possible) non prog artists?

Starship's other hits "Sara" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" are quite good as well.
Oh, I forgot Toto's "Africa," that's a great song. The 80s was definitely the best decade for Pop music!

I wasn't so involved with the contemporary pop/rock of my teenage days. Some of these songs have become dear later. (I know I'm forgetting some)
Dire Straits: Telegraph Road, Private Investigations, Love Over Gold, Brothers in Arms
Police: Wrapped Around Your Finger, Message in a Bottle, etc...
Sting: I still like most songs on three first albums
Tears For Fears: Advice for the Young at Heart, Famous Last Words
David Bowie: China Girl, Ashes to Ashes, etc...
U2: New Year's Day, With Or Without You, etc...
Simple Minds: live double In the City of Light is very good
Suzanne Vega: Ironbound, Calypso, Language, and many others
Fleetwood Mac: Little Lies
Dream Academy's Different Kind of Weather is a fantastic 'baroque pop' album I found some years ago
Peter Gabriel: So was an important album at my early listening times
Jon Anderson's Animation was the first epic song I fell in love with,
and yes, albums like 90125 and Asia were there in the beginning!
Jane Siberry is my definitive favourite of the artists that made their most important
albums in the 80's - The Walking has a status as my all-time favourite album.
