Progressive Biography
Name: Erik Neuteboom
Born: October 3rd in The Hague, The Netherlands
Married: May 17th 1990 with Hetty (Dutch but born and raised in Aruba)
Occupation: Psychiatric nurse since 1986
Hobbies: painting/drawing, running, photography ("nudge, nudge"), writing, playing guitar
Favorite holiday spots: Manchebo Beach Hotel on Aruba and Hotel Marilena in Molyvos (island Lesbos, Greece)
My favorite musical styles: symphonic prog, electronic music, flamenco, Classic Rock (from Led Zeppelin, The Doors and Queen to Ten Years After, Rory Gallagher and Stevie Ray Vaughan), ethnic music (Latin-America, Balkan, India and Ireland) and some classical music (mainly with Grand piano and classical guitar)
My progrock story:
Since I was 15 years old I'm a proghead (GENESIS, early KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD,YES, RUSH, CAMEL, BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST, The STRAWBS). I started to dig for information about foreign progrockbands in specialized magazines (Dutch Background and SI, French Harmonie and Spanish Sirius) and catalogues from mailorder-services (Syn-Phonic, Laser's Edge from USA and Marquee from Japan). This was long before I entered Internet and a rather time-consuming search! But it was a good investment because I discovered the fabulous Italian prog rock from the Seventies (PFM, BANCO, LE ORME, MUSEO ROSENBACH, CHERRY FIVE), the Mellotron drenched Skandinavian bands (LANDBERK, ANEKDOTEN, ANGLAGARD), the unique Spanish blend of prog and flamenco (TRIANA, CAI, MEDINA AZAHARA, AZAHAR, MEZQUITA, CRACK) and the spectacular keyboard driven Japanese progrock (GERARD, OUTER LIMITS, COSMOS FACTORY, ARS NOVA), the tasteful Early British Progressive Rock (BEGGAR'S OPERA, FANTASY, RARE BIRD, GRACIOUS, REFUGEE, BRAM STOKER) and bands like BACAMARTE, LOS JAIVAS, SOLARIS, GROBSCHNITT, NEUSCHWANSTEIN, ANGE, SHYLOCK, ANGEL, ATLANTIS PHILHARMONIC, THE ENID and EELA CRAIG.
Since the Nineties I enjoy new bands like Ayreon, Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, Spock's Beard, Anekdoten, Angulart, Amagrama, Nexus, Maldoror, Nemo, Aries, La Maschera Di Cera, After Crying, Little Tragedies and recently William Gray, Kotobel, Senogul, Tarkus, Anton Roolaart, Knight Area, Wicked Minds, Diapasao, Lost World and R-U Kaiser, progrock is still alive!
Since two years I work as a volunteer for my Dutch friend Hans Galjé his progrock mail-order-service Progwalhalla: he borrows me the most recent and best progrock CD's and DVD's and I write reviews about these items for him, an excellent deal and we receive a lot of appreciation from progheads all over the world!
My Prog Archives story:
Early 2004 I started to write biographies about bands like Triana, Atomic Rooster and Solaris. Then I began to add lots of lesser known and unknown Seventies and Eighties progrock bands from Spain, Japan, USA and Italy and recently my mission is to support new lesser known and unknown progrock bands from all over the world, from Nemo (France), Interpose+ (Japan)and William Gray (Argentina) to R-U Kaiser (Chile), Echoes (France), Bootcut (Sweden) and Senogul (Spain). I am very glad with the many positive reactions, a big boost to continue my musical mission!
My 10 favorite progrock albums are:
GENESIS "Wind and Wuthering" / YES "Yessongs" / GENESIS "Live" / RUSH "Exit Stage Left" / TRIANA "El Patio" / SOLARIS "1990" / BACAMARTE "Depois Do Fim" / PINK FLOYD "The Wall" / CAMEL "Mirage" / BARCLAY JAMES HAVEST "Live"
